Lead Mechanical Engineer
Quick Summary
Own product development end-to-end: Independently drive mechanical design of consumer electronics products from concept and industrial-design intent through detailed design, prototyping,
Manage ID discussions to balance and accommodate optical, acoustic, RF, usability, reliability, and operational-efficiency requirements across the full range of intended environmental conditions.
Alarm.com (ADC) is a rapidly expanding technology company developing innovative cloud and device solutions that deliver a unified, connected service to millions of residential and commercial properties in the US and abroad. We are seeking a hands-on Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our growing hardware team in Taiwan and help define the future of connected-home devices, including video doorbells, cameras, sensors, and control modules.
This is a dual-impact role. You will independently own the mechanical design of new products from concept through manufacturing, while also mentoring and guiding our senior mechanical engineering team in Taiwan. You will serve as the mechanical hub between US-HQ, the Taiwan team, and our manufacturing partners across Asia, working in the fast-paced, high-cadence development environment that defines consumer electronics.
Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Own product development end-to-end: Independently drive mechanical design of consumer electronics products from concept and industrial-design intent through detailed design, prototyping, and mass production.
- →Lead large-assembly design: Architect and manage complex, multi-part 3D CAD assemblies, maintaining design intent, robust part relationships, and revision discipline across the full product.
- →Build mockups and prototypes: Create mockups and functional prototypes to evaluate concepts, validate fit and function, and accelerate design iteration.
- →Manage simulation and analysis: Plan and manage simulations and engineering analysis, assess risks and design options, and justify decisions against product and cross-functional requirements.
- →Drive industrial-design integration: Manage ID discussions to balance and accommodate optical, acoustic, RF, usability, reliability, and operational-efficiency requirements across the full range of intended environmental conditions.
- →Design for manufacturing across processes: Design and optimize parts for injection molding, die-cast metal, over-molding, silicone (LSR) injection molding, compression molding, double-shot/two-shot molding, CNC machining, sheet metal, die-cut, and stamped processes.
- →Drive tolerance and DFX resolution: Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and lead resolution of DFM/DFA/DFX feedback to ensure manufacturable, reliable, cost-effective designs.
- →Prepare manufacturing drawings: Produce detailed 2D drawings for manufacturing that capture critical dimensions, tolerances (GD&T), manufacturing methods, materials, finishes, colors, and all requirements necessary to produce quality products.
- →Prepare BOMs, RFQs, and documentation: Prepare preliminary and detailed BOMs and RFQ packages, and document decisions, meeting minutes, research conducted, analyses and simulations performed, engineering assumptions and calculations, and risks with mitigation options.
- →Engage vendors and partners: Work directly with tooling vendors and ODM/manufacturing partners across Asia to drive part quality, tool builds, and issue resolution through EVT, DVT, and PVT.
- →Act as the cross-functional hub: Serve as the central point between cross-functional teams — especially Industrial Design, Optics, Acoustics, EE, RF, and QE — to build the complete system to meet product requirements, validated and verified according to established engineering standards and methods.
- →Mentor and guide: Provide technical guidance, design reviews, and mentorship to senior mechanical engineers in the Taiwan office, helping set and uphold mechanical design standards.
