The Technical Project Manager is responsible for leading complex technical and operational projects from concept through implementation and sustainment. This role combines strong project management expertise with technical knowledge to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with business objectives. The position supports manufacturing operations through process improvement initiatives, capital investment (CAPEX) management, performance monitoring, and cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities:
- Lead technical projects from concept through implementation, commissioning, and sustainment.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including business benefits, project costs, CAPEX tracking, milestones, risks, weekly accomplishments, and project status reports.
- Establish and maintain project governance structures, including project routines, review cadence, agendas, work breakdown structures (WBS), organizational breakdown structures (OBS), milestone plans, and cost/rate trajectories.
- Drive action item management and ensure timely follow-up and closure across all project stakeholders.
- Monitor project schedules and ensure adherence to overall project planning and milestone commitments.
- Identify project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and proactively escalate critical issues.
- Ensure achievement of project deliverables on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Develop a strong understanding of manufacturing, industrialization, and technical projects to effectively support project teams.
- Provide technical expertise and challenge proposed project roadmaps to optimize delivery timelines and project outcomes.
- Identify opportunities to accelerate project execution through innovative solutions, risk reduction strategies, process optimization, and resource alignment.
- Support technical decision-making by evaluating alternatives and recommending practical and cost-effective solutions.
- Facilitate technical discussions between engineering, operations, quality, maintenance, and leadership teams.
- Lead the preparation, coordination, and moderation of project and CAPEX review meetings.
- Track and report CAPEX expenditures, forecast spending, and monitor project financial performance.
- Present project progress, financial status, benefits realization, risks, and milestone achievement to leadership teams.
- Ensure compliance with organizational project management practices, financial controls, and investment governance processes.
- Partner directly with manufacturing teams to observe, measure, and analyze shop floor processes.
- Identify inefficiencies, waste, variation, and bottlenecks using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Lead capacity analyses, value stream mapping, and root cause analyses.
- Implement standardized work, visual management, and performance tracking systems.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that improve safety, quality, delivery, cost, and operational performance.
- Develop project charters, schedules, timelines, metrics, and risk mitigation plans.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Ensure projects meet safety, quality, cost, and delivery objectives.
- Track benefits realization and report progress to site leadership and stakeholders.
- Manage dependencies, resources, budgets, and project priorities across multiple initiatives.
- Define and monitor KPIs related to project and operational performance, including schedule adherence, cost performance, OEE, cycle time, yield, throughput, and productivity.
- Analyze production, quality, financial, and project data to support fact-based decision-making.
- Develop dashboards and reports to communicate project status, financial performance, and improvement results.
- Monitor and communicate project cost performance against approved budgets and forecasts.
- Facilitate Kaizen events, workshops, and cross-functional improvement activities.
- Coach and mentor teams on project management disciplines, problem-solving techniques, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and proactive issue resolution.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Maintenance, Supply Chain, Finance, and EHS teams to implement sustainable improvements.
- Ensure project and improvement initiatives comply with company policies, quality standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.
- Support adherence to safety standards and contribute to a strong safety culture.
Maintain accurate project records, governance documentation, and audit-ready project documentation.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Project Management, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience managing technical, manufacturing, industrial, or capital investment projects.
- Proven experience leading cross-functional teams in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong understanding of project management methodologies, project controls, and risk management.
- Experience managing project budgets, CAPEX investments, and financial reporting.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret project, manufacturing, and quality data.
- Experience developing project schedules, WBS structures, and milestone management plans.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent Project Management certification.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
- Experience in aerospace, automotive, or other high-reliability manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of Airbus Operating System or similar operational excellence frameworks.
- Experience with project portfolio management and CAPEX governance processes.
- Proficiency in project management and reporting tools (MS Project, Power BI, Excel, SAP, Primavera, etc.).
- Experience facilitating executive steering committees and project review boards.
