The Alzheimer Society of Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland and Haliburton is seeking a passionate, community-minded professional to join our team as a Community Engagement Coordinator.
In this role, you will play a key part in building dementia-inclusive communities by fostering meaningful relationships, delivering impactful education, and supporting community partners, volunteers, and individuals living with dementia and their care partners.
Key Responsibilities
Program Delivery & Community Engagement
- Lead the planning, promotion, and implementation of the Dementia Friendly Communities program across the service area, including coordinating initiatives and program activities.
- Deliver public education sessions on dementia, brain health, and related topics
- Coordinate and facilitate all EDIE workshops and immersive learning experiences
- Raise awareness and advocate for early diagnosis through presentations, events, and community outreach
- Support and expand public education initiatives in collaboration with the Education team
- Maintain current knowledge of dementia care and best practices, participate in professional development, and contribute to the ongoing evolution of the role and programs.
Outreach & Partnerships
- Act as an ambassador for the Alzheimer Society by participating in committees, events, and community initiatives, serving as a key resource and point of contact.
- Develop and implement outreach strategies to engage local businesses and organizations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners across the region
- Deliver and facilitate dementia education sessions tailored to community and business needs
- Support organizations in implementing dementia-friendly practices and inclusive approaches
- Act as a key resource and point of contact for community partners
- Collaborate with regional initiatives and service providers to strengthen referral pathways
Volunteer Coordination
- Recruit volunteers to enhance program delivery and community outreach efforts
Program Administration & Evaluation
- Monitor program activities, outcomes, and budget alignment
- Collect data, track metrics, and contribute to reporting and evaluation
- Support continuous improvement and sustainability planning for the program
- Collaborate with provincial partners to ensure alignment with broader initiatives

Education & Experience
- Diploma or degree in community development, adult education, communications, public relations, nonprofit management, fundraising, social services, healthcare, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- 2–3 years of experience in community engagement, outreach, education, program coordination, volunteer management, fundraising, or a related role
- Experience working with individuals living with dementia, older adults, care partners, or within the health, social services, nonprofit, or community support sector is considered an asset
- Demonstrated experience delivering presentations, facilitating workshops, or leading public education sessions
- Experience building collaborative relationships with community partners, businesses, volunteers, and diverse stakeholder groups
- Strong understanding of community development principles and inclusive, person-centred approaches
- Experience planning, coordinating, and implementing community-based programs, initiatives, or events
- Experience using social media, digital communication tools, and Microsoft Office applications to support outreach and engagement activities
- Demonstrated ability to confidently represent an organization within the community and build meaningful connections with diverse audiences
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and person-centred practices
- Excellent public speaking, presentation, and facilitation skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building abilities
- Demonstrated ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders and build collaborative relationships
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
- Cultural sensitivity and awareness of diversity
- Knowledge of community, health, and social service systems within the region
- Strong written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, client databases, and social media platforms
Additional Requirements
- Valid G Class driver’s license and access to a reliable, insured vehicle
- Ability to travel throughout Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland, and Haliburton
- Vulnerable Sector Police Check (within the last 2 months)
- Membership in a relevant professional regulatory body is considered an asset
- Position requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends based on program and community needs
Working Conditions
This role includes a combination of office, community-based, and outreach work, with regular travel across the region and active engagement in community settings.
