The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a Specialist, Health Promotions Working as a member of the Health Promotion & Education department, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research, education, and advocacy.
The Specialist, Health Promotions will be Responsible for implementing health systems change as part of the CT Best Practices in Tobacco Control grant. Includes working with health care providers throughout Connecticut to introduce new protocols to address tobacco addiction, working with community coalitions to coordinate tobacco control efforts, and increasing access to tobacco cessation resources and support for disparate communities. This is a 100% grant-funded position.
- If near the East Hartford, Connecticut office location, this role will be hybrid and require a minimum of two days per week in the office. We are also considering remote applicants and encourage candidates across the state of Connecticut to apply.
Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Engage with health care providers to promote health systems change and provide technical assistance to sustainably implement improved health systems to address tobacco addiction.
- →Oversee mini-grant funding and support of the MATCH Coalition, a coalition of diverse organizations addressing tobacco control and cessation in various environments and settings, participate in MATCH programs and meetings, and provide support to MATCH leadership.
- →Develop relationships with community-based organizations to promote referrals to the CT Quitline and Lung Health Navigator and implement tobacco cessation programming to targeted audiences.
- →Develop and deploy tobacco and nicotine product toolkits targeting health disparity in disproportionately affected areas and communities in Connecticut.
- →Provide mini-grants to organizations serving disparate populations to promote facilitation and delivery of cessation programming, training, and necessary materials for community-based organizations in disproportionately affected areas and communities.
- →Develop and submit timely reports as required by the Association and funders, including but not limited to weekly updates in the Association’s database, as well as monthly management, grant, and program metrics reports.
- →Represent the American Lung Association as a member of community, civic, and/or health coalitions and organizations related to the Association’s mission.
- →Build, maintain, and cultivate relationships with funders, facilitators, and community partners to encourage program delivery, sustainability, and growth across service territory, including the American Lung Association’s programs where applicable.
- →Select and participate in local, state, and national seminars and courses designed to increase skills and knowledge related to job requirements.
- →Serve on the Association’s regional and national workgroups and committees as requested.
- →Participate in and support all area events and provide support for annual report, awards, grants and other activities as assigned.
Requirements
~1 min read- Bachelor’s Degree in public health, education, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Minimum of two years’ direct experience working with youth in a community setting and developing and implementing community awareness, education, and programs specifically related to youth in areas of public health required
- At least one year of volunteer recruitment experience strongly preferred
- Prior experience in public health, community relations, public policy, and/or advocacy.
- Must be a self-starter with excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Positive attitude with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to lift approximately 25 lbs. (supplies)
- Able to work with minimum direct supervision, make decisions, and take initiative.
- Proven ability to cultivate and steward relationships across a diverse population.
- Must have a valid Driver’s license and your own reliable transportation with the ability to travel within assigned area (Connecticut) 60% of the time for meetings and conferences, as well as the flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends with some overnights required
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Internet applications.
