Assistant News Editor

Job Summary  The Queen’s Journal is an entirely student-run newspaper at Queen’s University. The paper was founded in 1873 and has been continually published ever since. The Journal currently publishes a bi-weekly print edition and regular online content throughout the year.  A writing sample must be e-mailed to newjournal.editors@ams.queensu.ca at the time of your application submission to supplement your application. Please include your name and the position title in the file's name.  Job Competencies  Communication  Organization  Ownership   Collaboration  Creativity   Cultural Sensitivity  Job Duties  Work with the News Editor to generate story ideas for the News section  Write at least two stories per issue for News   Collaborate with the other members of the News section to help fact-check each story  Attend and cover AMS Assembly, Board of Directors,  and Senate meetings  Respect and adhere to all company policies, procedures and ethical standards   Maintain timely communication with your direct supervisor   Attend and fully participate in all in person and virtual meetings  Complete all assigned tasks efficiently and attentively  Strive to foster a warm, comfortable and respectful atmosphere for all   Always serve as a representative of the AMS and its mission statement   Complete other job duties as assigned   Job Requirements  Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization and execution skills  Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment   Working Conditions  Interaction and collaboration with coworkers, management and the Queen’s community
