The Physical Security Support SME is a full-time role supporting the Office Under Secretary of War for Intelligence & Security (OUSW (I&S)). The candidate will support high-visibility or mission-critical aspects of the OUSW (I&S) and perform all functional duties independently.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development, staffing, and oversight of DoW physical security policies, manuals, and instructions. This includes analyzing physical security threats, recommending risk-tailored management strategies, and answering inquiries from Components and leadership.

  • Assess physical security equipment, access control systems (including locks), and system requirements generation and funding processes. Develop and provide technical standards, policies, and implementation guidance on an ongoing basis.

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships across DoW to ensure that Emergency Management, Law Enforcement, Workplace Violence, Cyber Security, Identification Card, Transportation, Force Protection, Mission Assurance, and Antiterrorism initiatives align with DoW physical security policy.

  • Conduct security reviews to assess and report on DoW Component's implementation of physical security measures. Interpret DoW and interagency policy, provide expert advice, and recommend solutions to deter and prevent physical security breaches.

  • Enhance physical security inspection and audit capabilities, standardize and modernize access controls, and strengthen physical security measures to mitigate both internal and external physical threats.

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships across DoW to ensure that Emergency Management, Law Enforcement, Workplace Violence, Cyber Security, Identification Card, Transportation, Force Protection, Mission Assurance, and Antiterrorism initiatives align with DoW physical security policy.

  • Establish and maintain interagency relationships with Federal Agencies, as appropriate, to identify any technology and procedural best practices for adoption in DoW, as well as identify and collaborate on public laws and international agreements that impact DoW physical security policies.

  • Provide staff support to the DoW Physical Security Review Board and other physical security working groups and OUSW (I&S), as necessary.

Requirements

  • Clearance: Active TS/SCI
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5 years of experience working with PhySec (DoW experience preferred), executive orders, and federal laws
  • One year experience developing briefing materials and presenting to peers and senior leadership in areas including policy, strategy, oversight functions, capability gaps.  One year of supporting senior DoW officials as a staff and/or action officer
  • One year of experience conducting research and analysis of DoW policy guidance documents and legal decisions
