The hiring range for this position is $79,902 - $99,877 annually.

  • Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of Aurora Water’s BIM program. 
  • Consult with users, management, vendors, and other BIM and Asset Management staff to determine needs, system requirements, and workflows. 
  • Coordinate the installation and testing of the applications programmed and write documentation that describes the operating procedures for using them. 
  • Provide BIM training activities and provide technical support to BIM users. 
  • Review and interpret simple to moderately complex planning and engineering documents (master plans, public improvement plans, site and/or civil plans, facility as-built drawings, reports) for conformance to City standards and code 
  • Initiate and manage consultant contracts, including the development of scopes of work and budgets, negotiating contracts with consultants, and coordinating activity involving multiple divisions 
  • Write memos, develop presentations, and create figures.  
  • Coordinate with Aurora Water Operations to identify engineering needs to support facilities  
  • Collaborate with the Purchasing Department to develop scopes of work, solicit bids, attend pre-bid meetings, award, and manage contractor work efforts for facility service needs. 
  • Assist in coordinating warranty efforts with outside contractors and technicians for contracted work. 
  • Ensure compliance with design standards, City policies and procedures, and governmental regulations 
  • May support Senior Engineers in the design of interdepartmental engineering projects 
  • Attend department meetings and ad-hoc project-specific meetings to develop solutions to project issues, either under the direction of or with the support of senior-level staff 
  • May respond to citizen concerns and inquiries under the direction of Senior Engineers or Supervisors 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Aurora Water is responsible for enhancing and protecting the quality of life for Aurora citizens by providing quality water, sewer, and stormwater services in a manner that balances social, environmental, and economic needs.

This job supports Aurora Water’s engineering and asset management efforts by developing and maintaining the department’s BIM program, providing technical training, and ensuring consistent, standards-based use of BIM tools across the organization. The role collaborates closely with internal staff, consultants, and contractors to interpret engineering documents, manage contracts, coordinate facility service needs, and uphold compliance with City policies and design standards. It also contributes to project planning and problem solving under the guidance of senior engineering staff. 

Requirements

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. 

  • At least one (1) year experience completing complex, multi-disciplinary BIM and facility projects preferred 

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field 

  • Two (2) years of professional engineering work for a Civil Engineer II 

  • Colorado Driver's License with a good driving record 
  • Engineer Intern Certification 

  • Knowledge of current engineering principles and practices applicable to municipal and development engineering projects, including local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to assigned function. 
  • Thorough knowledge of the trail system, ADA ramps, roadway design, and construction specifications 
  • Autodesk Revit, Autodesk BIM 360 

  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills 
  • Strong customer service skills 
  • Skill in the use of engineering instruments and equipment, including a personal computer and related software 

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, all levels of management, including executive staff, citizens, and elected officials 
  • Handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy 
  • Present ideas clearly and concisely in oral and written form to leadership and management 
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with the public, commissions, City Council, other jurisdictions and agencies, and city staff regarding development projects and issues 
  • Interpret codes and criteria 
  • Ability to review development plans and reports, 
  • Ability to extract relevant information, make decisions, or provide recommendations for complex technical and procedural issues 
  • Applies critical thinking and sound judgment to resolve problems and manage challenging situations
  • Able to manage multiple projects, objectives, and competing priorities 

WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the city, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel. 

  • Light work that involves moving no more than 20 pounds at a time 
  • Frequent walking and standing 
  • Infrequent carrying and lifting 
  • May seldom require pushing, pulling, bending, and stooping 
  • Clear vision to read and interpret reports and other written documents 
  • Speech communication and hearing are used to maintain communication with employees and citizens 
  • Hand/foot/eye coordination for the operation of a computer keyboard, office equipment, and to operate a motor vehicle 

  • Works primarily indoors but may work outdoors, attending field meetings or site visits 

  • Uses standard office equipment, including a personal computer and common office software such as email, internet, Word, Excel, and menu-driven databases as a part of the Development Review process 
  • This position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g., vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment. 

The city of Aurora will implement furlough days (unpaid days off) for most employees in 2026. The scheduled furlough dates are January 16, April 10, July 2, and December 24.
