The hiring rate for this position is $23.60 - $29.50/hourly
This is classified as VHBE (Variable Hour Benefit Eligible), where the selected candidate can work up to 40 hours per week. The selected candidate will be eligible to elect Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits, accrue paid time off, and receive 11 paid holidays.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT
Performs a variety of accounts payable and payroll functions. Provides guidance on invoice coding. Researches information for invoices, purchase orders, and payroll.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Proficient at processing payroll, invoices, purchase requests and purchase orders.

Assists with interpreting policies related to travel, payroll, and other Financial Support Technician functions.

Proficient at processing payroll, invoices, and Purchase Requests/Purchase Orders

Verify coding on invoices and ensure proper back-up documentation is included for batching

Perform a variety of more complex analytical, budget, administrative, and accounting functions relating to invoices, purchase requests, and purchase orders.

Process and review purchase requests for completeness and funding

Process legal bills

Proficient at processing fiscal security deposits and toilet rebates

Process journal entries for construction payments

Requirements

Education:
High School Diploma or GED
Associate's Degree in finance, business, office administration or directly related field preferred.
Experience:
At least two (2) years increasingly responsible financial and administrative support experience
Minimum intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
Experience using a multi-line phone line preferred.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered
Knowledge:
Knowledge of standard office procedures.
General business practices.
Report formatting and records maintenance.
Office management principles.
Personal computers including word processing, database, and spreadsheet software application program.
Skills:
Excellent customer service skills over the phone and in-person.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Skill in operating a personal computer with related software.
Efficiently and accurately key information using a keyboard.
Abilities:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, citizens, and elected officials.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Essential Personnel:
When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the city, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
Physical Demands:
Light physical work lifting at least 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds with or without assistance.
Occasional lifting and carrying of objects.
Some walking and standing
Vision for reading and interpreting reports and other written material
Hand/eye coordination for operation of computer and 10 key calculators
Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with department personnel and citizens
Work Environment:
Works in a clean, comfortable environment
Equipment Used:
Frequently uses standard office equipment including computer, calculator, multi-line telephones, and copy/fax machines.
This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
The city of Aurora will implement furlough days (unpaid days off) for most employees in 2026. The scheduled furlough dates are January 16, April 10, July 2, and December 24.
