Responsibilities

The specialist scientist in quality reports to the Quality Manager and has sufficient free time from other commitments to assist with implementation of the quality system on a daily basis. 

  • To perform his/her duties under the general direction of the Quality Manager
  • To perform all aspects of work to the highest standard.
  • To supervise and provide support and training to medical scientists, medical laboratory assistants and administration staff in the performance of their duties with respect to Qpulse and the QMS.
  • To co-ordinate training in the Directorate, working in conjunction with the Practical Educator co-ordinator where applicable.
  • To assist in maintaining the accreditation status of the Directorate through compliance with the requirements of ISO15189.
  • To carry out quality management projects as allocated by and under the guidance of the Quality Manager
  • In conjunction with the Quality Manager, ensuring compliance with relevant national, European and international standards including ISO 15189, AML-BB, relevant EU Directives, applicable INAB/EA/ILAC guidelines, INAB Regulations and Terms and Conditions, and relevant legislation.
  • To represent the Quality Manager at meetings when required.
  • Partaking in laboratory and quality meetings, decision making and policy implementation as appropriate.
  • Deputy point of contact for external accreditation bodies e.g. INAB.
  • Deputy system administrator for INAB CRM system.
  • Assist Quality Manager with preparation for and follow up on external inspections to include recording of findings and verifying the completion of root causes analysis and corrective action as required by the reports of the inspectors.
  • Assist Quality Manager with maintenance and overview of equipment management in the Directorate.
  • Working under supervision of the Quality Manager ensuring the quality management system on behalf of laboratory management is established, implemented and maintained, including:
    • Continual quality improvement
    • Directorate quality objectives
    • Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)
    • Maintenance of QMn-GEN-001 Quality Manual
    • Document Control Audits
    • Non-conformances
    • Change management procedures
    • Validation procedures
    • Internal Quality Control
    • External Quality Assurance
    • Maintenance and administration of the Q-Pulse System.
    • Supplier and referral laboratory reviews.
    • IT functionality
    • Complaints, queries and problems.
  • To attend courses and meetings as appropriate to maintain up to date knowledge.
  • To perform any other duties as may be appropriate to the grade and as designated by Quality Manager.

  • Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc
  • Experience in management of quality management system in laboratory
  • Experience working with INAB systems
  • Experience in Quality Management and Quality improvement in the laboratory through roles such as Quality officer, or Equipment Officer, or Training officer, or EQA Officer, or as the Deputy Officer for such laboratory roles.
  •  Experience performing ISO and vertical audits in the laboratory
