We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our Analytics team responsible for building and evolving a high-scale distributed data processing platform that impacts hundreds of large B2C and B2B merchants. We are looking for a proven engineering leader who is passionate about mentoring and developing high-performing engineers, fostering a team-oriented culture, and rallying others to deliver on engineering initiatives that directly contribute to business goals and product strategies.
- Define and champion the technical roadmap and design for a scalable data processing and insight platform, ensuring it meets the analytical needs of a high-growth search product.
- Direct the implementation and maintenance of internal and external APIs, focusing on tackling tough scaling challenges to increase automation, improve operational efficiency, and lower system costs.
- Establish best practices for data processing, observability, and documentation to measurably improve the team's operational efficiency and the overall stability of the platform.
- Collaborate closely with Product Management and other stakeholders to translate ambiguous business needs into clear, actionable technical roadmaps and project plans.
- Manage the full project lifecycle, overseeing planning, capacity, and development schedules to ensure predictable and high-quality feature delivery.
- Implement and enforce rigorous software development lifecycles (SDLC), setting high expectations for code quality, change management, and security.
- Drive alignment and consensus across geographically distributed teams and time zones, proactively resolving dependencies and conflicts.
- Build and mentor a best-in-class data analytics engineering team, fostering an inclusive culture of continuous learning, psychological safety, and high performance.
- Coach and develop engineering talent, creating growth opportunities and defining clear career paths within the organization.

- Cultural & Process Acumen: Achieve a deep understanding of the company's OWN, WE, THINK, NO DRAMA, and TRUTH core values. Become fully familiar with the 6-week development cycle and the quality/release processes.
- Product Architecture Mastery: Develop a high-level comprehension of the Discovery product architecture and its key components.
- Team & Project Mapping: Establish working relationships with all team engineers. Gain a clear handle on all in-flight projects, priorities, and individual ownership within the team.
The focus shifts to deep domain knowledge and assuming full ownership of team operations.
- Deep Component Knowledge: Attain a thorough understanding of the Analytics component architecture, including its upstream/downstream dependencies and how it delivers customer business value.
- Technology Stack & Trade-offs: Understand the team's entire technology stack (e.g., data stores, frameworks) and the architectural rationale behind its choices.
- Process Ownership: Fully own and optimize the team’s operating norms and processes (e.g., sprint planning, bug triage, on-call/PagerDuty setup).
- Internal Network: Establish key, cross-functional working relationships with Product and Engineering leaders outside the immediate team.
The focus is on driving measurable improvements and beginning talent management.
- Operational Credibility: Successfully check in a small feature or bug fix and shepherd it through to production deployment, validating system and process knowledge.
- Team & Quality Assessment: Develop a clear, objective insight into the team's strengths, weaknesses, and key quality/skill gaps.
- Strategic Improvement Plan: Collaborate with Product and Engineering leadership to propose concrete suggestions for improving overall product quality, informed by the 90-day assessment.
- Talent Management Kick-off: Establish strong rapport and begin actively managing engineers' careers, defining improvement areas and growth opportunities for each team member.
