About the Role
~1 min readWe're a product engineering studio, and we're expanding one of our client engagements. Our client is an established EdTech company whose flagship title is a 3D mobile learning game with hundreds of thousands of installs across iOS and Android, backed by university research and a subscription model with real revenue behind it.
This is a mature, live product — not a greenfield prototype and not a two-week contract. You'd be joining an existing team of full-stack and React Native engineers as the Unity specialist, and you'd own the game client end to end.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Maintaining and extending a large, live 3D mobile game (multi-year codebase, active release cadence)
- →Untangling and improving the content delivery pipeline — Addressables/asset bundles, remote catalogs, versioning
- →Profiling and optimizing performance and memory on low-end Android devices
- →Owning builds and releases: Xcode, Gradle, TestFlight, App Store and Play Console submissions
- →Working on subscription and IAP flows, including purchase restore and server-side receipt validation
- →Integrating with backend APIs alongside our full-stack team for progress sync and reporting
- →Shipping new gameplay content and minigames as the product roadmap moves
- 4+ years of professional Unity/C# development, with at least one shipped 3D mobile title you can point to
- Real experience with Addressables or asset bundles at scale (this one matters more than anything else on the list)
- Strong mobile optimization skills — Unity Profiler, draw calls, texture compression, memory budgets
- You've personally run the build and release process for iOS and Android, not just handed off a branch
- Unity IAP or RevenueCat, ideally with subscription products
- Comfortable reading and improving code you didn't write, without needing to rewrite it first
- Solid written English — this is a distributed team and most communication is async
- Should have high-spec hardware and a fast internet connection to handle large Unity builds.
- URP experience
- Animator, Timeline, Cinemachine
- CI/CD for Unity (Unity Build Automation, GameCI, Fastlane)
- Experience with kids' apps and the constraints that come with them (COPPA, no ad SDKs, restricted data collection)
- Localization work
- Contract, fully remote
- 15–20 hours per week to start, with strong potential to grow as the roadmap expands
- Flexible hours, with some overlap expected for weekly syncs
- Long-term engagement — the client relationship is ongoing and this is not a fixed-end project
You'd be the technical owner of the Unity side of a product that real kids use every day, on a codebase with genuine engineering depth — asset streaming, performance work at scale, subscription infrastructure. You get the autonomy of contract work with the stability of a long-running client relationship, and a team around you that handles backend, mobile, and delivery so you can stay in the engine.
