Role purpose: The role is involved in the implementation of projects with a moderate level of complexity funded by British Council or by another client or funding mechanism. The role holder leads the successful delivery of a range of projects from start to finish including managing the contract or project plan, managing client or internal stakeholders, successfully achieving reporting and meeting compliance standards. Role Accountabilities: This role focuses on successfully managing projects and programmes through effective stakeholder engagement, strong relationship building, and robust project governance. Responsibilities include maintaining communication with internal and external stakeholders, managing suppliers and contractors, ensuring contract compliance, and leading small teams to deliver project outcomes. The position also requires developing strong internal networks and fostering collaboration to support programme success. The role includes significant commercial, financial, and project management responsibilities. This involves ensuring compliance with financial policies and procedures, supporting financial planning and reporting, monitoring expenditure, and correcting financial discrepancies when needed. The individual is responsible for project planning, procurement, contracting, compliance monitoring, risk identification and mitigation, data management, reporting, monitoring and evaluation activities, and maintaining accurate project information to meet organisational and funder requirements. In addition, the role requires applying sector expertise to support high-quality programme design and delivery through knowledge of the local context and education or state systems. Responsibilities include sharing research and best practices, maintaining up-to-date information on partners and stakeholders, and contributing to strategic development. The role reports to the Head of English & School Education and will line manage a Project Officer. Role specific knowledge and experience Essentials * Bachelor’s degree is required. * Experience of managing projects from start to finish and familiarity with project life cycle. * Experience of managing external stakeholders * Experience of using technology in project delivery * Good understanding and experience of supporting monitoring and evaluation * Desirables * Experience of managing teacher education projects (delivered online, face-to-face or blended) Important Information * British Council Pay Band: 6 * Department: Cultural Engagement * Contract type: Indefinite * Working location: Rwanda * Proof of Identity requirements/right to work in country: Candidates should ensure they have the legal right to live and work in the country where the role is based.
