Job Summary

The Dump Truck Driver is primarily responsible for driving a tri or quad-axle dump truck. This individual will be delivering construction materials to and from job sites. The individual is responsible for the safety of the truck, material(s), and equipment that is being hauled. Working with Brooks Construction Supervisors will be necessary in order to get the job done correctly.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Complies with all Department of Transportation (DOT), state, and local regulations, including maintaining records.
  • Adheres to all company safety policies.
  • Completes daily pre-trip truck inspections.
  • Operates a dump truck for various types of construction jobs and hauling needs including the ability to back spread stone, gravel, and/or related construction materials and the ability to dump into an asphalt paver.
  • Maintains a basic geographic knowledge of northeastern Indiana and ability to use maps.
  • Works overtime and various shifts based on the needs of the job.
  • Calculates the preparation time for on time deliveries.
  • Coordinates repairs needed on a truck in a timely manner.
  • Keeps up to date with federal or state regulations related to items being transported.
  • Adapts quickly to change throughout the workday and/or workweek.

  • Ability to abide by company Drug & Alcohol-Free Workplace policies and successfully complete all pre-employment drug and/or alcohol screenings in accordance with DOT regulations.

  • Displays excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.

  • Performs duties with accuracy, thoroughness and attention to details.

  • Prioritizes safety and ensures compliance with safety protocols and PPE requirements.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated self-starter who fosters collaboration and teamwork.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must hold and maintain a minimum of a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License valid for manual transmissions.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience driving a dump truck.
  • Previous hands-on construction experience is preferred, with some knowledge of heavy construction equipment.
  • Pass all pre-employment drug and/or alcohol test as required by the Company policy and if applicable by DOT regulations.
  • Highly desire a member in good standing with the local Teamsters union or willingness to become a member.

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting/Carrying: Up to 50 lbs. frequently
  • Pushing/Pulling: Up to 50 lbs. frequently
  • Movement Requirements: Must be able to safely climb in and out of dump truck; bend, stoop, and kneel; and perform inspections and adjustments in varying conditions without limitation.
  • Meets the minimum physical requirements stipulated in Section 391.41 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety

Working Environment

  • Individual will be working in a field environment.
  • Individual will be working with internal customers (Dispatch, Foremen, Project Managers, Field Superintendents, etc.).
  • Ability to work outdoors in all seasons and all-weather conditions (including rain, snow, extreme heat or cold, water, mud, dust, etc.).
  • Willing to work evenings, weekends, and long hours/extensive overtime (sunrise to sunset) when necessary (often with little or no notice).
