EWP Design Supervisor / Lead Designer - Indirect

PURPOSE Overseeing the work of the EWP design team, ensuring designs and layouts are accurate, cost effective, and completed on schedule. Coordinates work assignments, reviews and approves designs, supports customer and sales initiatives, manages optimization processes, and assists with inventory management activities related to Engineered Wood Products. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Oversees the work of employees utilizing EWP design software and related systems to perform engineering, layout, and design functions for floors. Supervises daily workflow and design production to ensure timely completion of customer projects while maintaining quality and accuracy standards. Reviews incoming orders and project specifications, estimates completion timelines, and assigns work to appropriate design personnel. Reviews, approves, and verifies EWP layouts, calculations, design drawings, and material takeoffs prior to release for manufacturing or customer use. Establishes pricing recommendations and supports sales teams in developing profitable and competitive engineered wood product solutions. Assists designers and sales personnel in providing solutions that meet customer requirements for structural integrity, constructability, code compliance, and material efficiency. Records, tracks, and analyzes design errors in accordance with company policy. Conducts training and review sessions with designers to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. Performs EWP design and layout work as needed to support workload demands and customer requirements. Reviews design office lead times and coordinates workload balancing with other designers and locations when necessary. Communicates with contractors, architects, engineers, builders, and company sales representatives to obtain information required for accurate and timely project completion. Administers new employee training and ongoing development programs to ensure proficiency with EWP products, software, company procedures, and industry standards. Oversees and manages BC Connect Optimizer activities to maximize manufacturing efficiencies, improve material yield, reduce waste, and ensure optimized production output. Coordinates inventory requirements with ICS, ensuring accurate inventory replenishment, stock availability, stocking lengths needed, and material planning to meet customer demand and production schedules. Monitors inventory accuracy and assist with inventory control processes, including physical inventories, cycle count execution, discrepancy investigation, and corrective action implementation. Partners with operations, purchasing, sales, and manufacturing teams to improve communication, workflow efficiency, inventory utilization, and customer service. Provides technical support and expertise regarding EWP products, software applications, and design best practices. Performs other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises assigned employees including staff selection, onboarding, training, scheduling, performance management, coaching, and development. Plans, assigns, and directs work activities while fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, customer focus, and teamwork. Conducts performance reviews, addresses employee concerns, and supports career development initiatives. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Design Technology, or a related field; or equivalent experience. Two (2) or more years of EWP design experience. Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred. Advanced proficiency in EWP design software. Demonstrated knowledge of engineered wood products, floor systems, roof systems, and structural framing applications. Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Understanding of inventory management, cycle counting, and supply chain processes. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, truss layouts, and engineering documentation. Strong customer service and relationship management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, ERP systems, BC Connect, and design software platforms. Ability to analyze data and make sound business decisions regarding pricing, inventory, efficiency, and resource allocation.
