This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Main Purpose of Job

State Park Ranger Supervisor is the supervisory level of work in programs of the state park system. A State Park Ranger Supervisor is responsible for the operation of a small park facility and supervises the work of staff in all areas of park operations: visitor services, resource development and protection, facility, recreation, interpretive services, property management, collection and processing of park system revenue, concessions and maintenance.\r\n\r\n\r\nState Park Ranger Supervisor directly supervises one or more subordinate maintenance staff, State Park Rangers, administrative assistants, and may supervise clerical staff and short and long term contractual positions. Managerial supervision is received from a State Park Ranger Assistant Manager, State Park Ranger Manager or other higher-level designated managerial position. Employees are subject to call-in, and may be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays and to work outdoors in all kinds of weather. The work may require lifting objects weighing twenty-five pounds or more.\r\n\r\n\r\nState Park Ranger Supervisor is differentiated from the State Park Ranger Lead in that the State Park Ranger Supervisor has supervisory responsibility for lower-level State Park Rangers while the State Park Ranger Lead assigns, reviews and approves the work of and trains lower-level State Park Rangers.\r\n\r\n\r\n

POSITION DUTIES

State Park Ranger Supervisor is the supervisory level of work in the operation of a State park. Employees in this classification interpret and apply Park rules and regulations to ensure voluntarycompliance with park standards, coordinate forest and park programs, and inform visitors of forestand park resources.� Employees in this classification supervise lower-level State Park Rangers and may supervise temporary employees and volunteers. Employees are subject to call-in, and may be required to work rotating shift, weekends, holidays and to work outdoors in all kinds of weather. The work may require lifting objects weighing twenty-five pounds or more. These positions serve as an Area Manager and support the overall operation of state park facilities, and provides site supervision, instruction and problem resolution to full-time administrative, maintenance and programming personnel, as well as seasonal employees and volunteers.\r\n\r\n\r\nDuties include but are not limited to: visitor services, general ground, facility and state housing maintenance, grants administration, communicating established procedures and policies to the public, developing budgets and monitoring expenses and revenue, interpretive services, collection and processing of state park and concession revenues, trail design and maintenance, and monitoring the physical condition of recreational facilities to ensure safe and efficient operation of the park, as well as the preservation of their natural, cultural and historical resources. Weekend and holiday work will be required.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:�Eight years of experience, four years of experience in forest or park management, recreation, or natural resources�management, or preparing, developing or delivering programs that interpret natural, historical, cultural or recreational features and an additional four years of experience in park�management, recreation or a natural or cultural resources�related field.\r\nNotes:\r\n1.�Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the field of park operations, recreation, education, business administration, forestry, social sciences, history or a natural resources or history related field and four years of experience in forest or park management, recreation, or natural resources management, or preparing, developing or delivering programs that interpret natural, historical, cultural or recreational features for the required experience.\r\n2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree�from an accredited college or university in the field of park management, recreation, education, business�administration, forestry, social sciences or a natural resources related field for five years of the required experience.\r\n3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in management and program clerical and assistance classification or management and program clerical and assistance specialty codes in the general, administrative, clerical, and office services field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. \r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

\r\n Experience with work planning, task prioritization, project coordination, or resource scheduling in an operational setting.\r\n Experience preparing and managing budgets, procurement, contracting, inventory, or other operational resource management activities.\r\n Experience supervising or coordinating staff engaged in operations, maintenance, grounds, facilities or related functions.\r\n Experience managing workforce scheduling and resource allocation within an operational environment.\r\n Experience handling conflict resolution and employee relations.\r\n Experience providing daily animal care, feeding, maintaining habitat cleanliness, monitoring health and behavior, and supporting animal welfare and husbandry practices in an aviary environment.\r\n \r\n\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess an appropriate motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.\r\n
