~3 min readThe Behavioral Health Care Manager (BHCM) Team Lead provides clinical supervision, administrative oversight, and program leadership for Collaborative Care (CoCM) Behavioral Health Care Managers embedded in primary care. This role blends leadership and direct clinical expertise, with an approximate balance of administrative/supervisory and clinical consultation responsibilities, to ensure high‑quality, compliant, and effective CoCM service delivery.
The position serves as a senior clinical and operational resource for CoCM staff, primary care clinics, and leadership, supporting population‑based care, measurement‑based treatment, registry management, and interdisciplinary collaboration in alignment with Collaborative Care Model standards.
This role also requires the staff person carry a CoCM caseload of 25-30 clients in addition to their leadership responsibilities. Other responsibilities include:
- →Clinical Oversight & CoCM Leadership
- →Provide clinical oversight and consultation to BHCMs delivering CoCM services, including support with assessment, treatment planning, stepped care, and complex cases.
- →Participate in and support weekly psychiatric caseload consultations and ensure follow‑through on treatment recommendations.
- →Serve as a clinical resource for crisis consultation, risk management, and coordination of care.
- →Model trauma‑informed, recovery‑oriented, and evidence‑based behavioral health practices.
- →Supervision & Staff Development
- →Support onboarding, orientation, training, and ongoing professional development of CoCM staff.
- →Provide regular individual supervision to BHCMs to support accountability and growth within the program.
- →Conduct performance management activities, including goal‑setting, feedback, annual performance reviews, and corrective action when needed.
- →Foster a supportive team culture emphasizing accountability, collaboration, and skill development.
- →Measurement‑Based Care & Quality Assurance
- →Ensure consistent use of registries and measurement‑based care tools (e.g., PHQ‑9, GAD‑7, PTSD measures).
- →Monitor caseloads, outcomes, follow‑up adherence, and engagement to identify trends and care gaps.
- →Support quality improvement initiatives and data‑informed clinical decision‑
- →Ensure documentation meets CoCM, payer, regulatory, and organizational standards.
- →Operational & Administrative Oversight
- →Manage scheduling, coverage, and workflows for CoCM staff in collaboration with clinic leadership.
- →Oversee timecards, PTO requests, and schedule builds in applicable systems (e.g., ADP, EHR scheduling tools).
- →Conduct regular site visits to assigned clinics and meet with Practice Managers and clinical teams.
- →Serve as a liaison between CoCM staff, primary care teams, psychiatric consultants, and organizational leadership.
- →Participate in site, program, and leadership meetings as required.
- →Hiring, Program & Policy Support
- →Support interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and orientation of new CoCM staff.
- →Assist with implementation of policies, procedures, and workflow updates related to CoCM services.
- →Ensure consistent application of evidence‑based practices and organizational standards across sites.
- →Provide back‑up consultation to other team leaders and clinical supervisors as needed.
- →Other related job duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a related behavioral health field required.
- Full or Associate Clinical licensure (e.g., LCSW(A), LCMHC(A), LMFT(A)) active and valid in North Carolina required.
- Experience in Collaborative Care, integrated care, or primary care behavioral health preferred.
- Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
- Demonstrated computer literacy and use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel; and ability in data tracking, management, analysis and feedback of results.
- Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State and local laws, regulations, etc. as they pertain to health care service delivery.
- Ability to make decisions and work independently without specific instruction regularly.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality requiring extreme sensitivity and disclosures that require discretion.
