- Manage incident/near-miss investigations including follow-up, closure using company approved Incident Management Systems, verify corrective actions, and review/verify investigations to prevent reoccurrence.
- Prepare Level 1 incident reports and participate in incident review calls
- Serve as an on-call resource for incidents, concerns, resourcing needs, and drug & alcohol (D&A) events.
- Own the EHS onboarding process and tracking for newly hired drivers, prioritizing timely completion and compliance.
- Develop and deliver safety training specific to private fleet drivers, including loading/unloading, pre-trip inspection, and site-specific EHS procedures.
- Conduct monthly training sessions with Private Fleet Regional Managers (PFRM’s) and site managers.
- Manage assigned learning-management (e.g., ChemU) training content and completion tracking.
- Develop and deliver training on private fleet procedures (loading/unloading, pre-trip inspection) as fleet operations are integrated or expanded, partnering with the Safety Excellence group as needed.
- Participate in regular one-on-one meetings with the transportation managers and assist developing monthly Transportation safety meetings, including agenda preparation.
- Maintain STOP Observation data with report outs, KPI reporting, Focus Site safety plans, and distribution of Learning From Incidents (LFIs), Safety Stand Downs and Safety Alerts.
- Promote proactive safety participation across all drivers and transportation staff, ensuring injuries, illnesses, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions are reported and investigated.
- Complete PPE hazard and ergonomic assessments (e.g., Tumeke) for driver and transportation related roles.
- Manage ISN (contractor prequalification) requirements, driver qualification files, and records retention schedules.
- Oversee industrial hygiene needs relevant to private fleet operations and maintain Nurse On Call program, spill kits, and first-aid kit inventories at locations.
- Monitor and administer proactive safety programs (e.g., SFAIs, Pro-Active PSIF’s), including reporting on aggressive driving behaviors such as hard braking.
- Maintain EHS SharePoint data repository and support Responsible Care / RC14001 recordkeeping as applicable.
- Review and update Emergency Response Plans and procedures for private fleet on a recurring basis.
- Support safety-related evaluations for equipment purchases and modifications using Management of Change (MOC’s).
- Lead annual reviews and conduct audits at Chemtrade and customer sites, including field paperwork and checklist compliance.
- Maintain compliance with DOT, HazMat, HAZWOPER, and RCRA requirements applicable to private fleet.
- Develop, update, and review EHS procedures; serve as coordinator/approver for Management of Change (MOC) processes.
- Monitor interactions with regulatory authorities, insurance carriers, and EHS consultants on transportation-related matters; ensure permits and required reporting stay current.
- Oversee EHS requirements for contractor work performed on trucks at company sites.
- Manage incident and compliance programs for drivers, including medical/physical qualification tracking, PPE, lone-worker protocols, D&A programs, safety meetings, and Emergency Response Plan (ERP) alignment.
- Travel to Chemtrade and customer sites to provide EHS support and conduct audits, including overnight stays as required (approximately 30–50%).
- Perform other duties as assigned to support EHS department goals and objectives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety, environmental science, transportation/logistics, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Minimum 5–7 years of EHS or safety management experience, preferably within trucking, private fleet, or transportation operations.
- Working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations, hours-of-service rules, hazardous materials transportation (49 CFR), and related compliance requirements.
- Experience with incident investigation, root-cause analysis, and corrective action follow-up.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and EHS management/reporting systems.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to build consensus and influence private drivers, PFRM’s, and site managers.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills; ability to manage multiple sites and priorities against deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Willingness to travel 30–50%, including overnight stays, to support terminals, audits, and training.
Desirable skills:
- Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).
- HAZWOPER (40-hour) training or Hazardous Materials response experience.
- Familiarity with Responsible Care, RC14001, or comparable EHS management systems.
- Experience with drive cam, telematics/driver-monitoring platforms (e.g., hard-braking, aggressive-driving analytics).
- Knowledge of workers' compensation processes and case management.
- First Aid / CPR certification.
- Ability to adapt to shifting priorities based on regulatory compliance needs, risk management, and business demands
