- Provides leadership to managers and may also have professional staff.
- Must have at least one manager level direct report
- Is accountable for the performance and results of multiple related teams
- Develops departmental plans, including business, production and/or organizational priorities
- Decisions are guided by resource availability and organizational objectives
- Consistent exercise of discretion & judgment
- Oversees a team of mechanical engineers that design, analyze, and maintain mechanical components and systems to meet specified requirements and standards.
- Utilizes CAD software and other design and modeling tools to plan, develop, and improve mechanical parts or components and communicate conceptual designs and specifications to stakeholders.
- Oversees prototype testing to evaluate the performance, reliability, and safety of mechanical systems and reviews data and analysis to develop improvements.
- Implements departmental policies and procedures to delegate workflow and ensure projects are completed on time and within required specifications and quality standards.
- Leads the research and development of innovative or new technologies to improve existing products or processes.
- Ensures projects follow organizational best practices for design, prototyping, and testing.
- Leads and directs the work of other employees and has responsibility for personnel actions including hiring, performance management, and termination with concurrence from HR & General Managers.

Requirements
~1 min read- Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
- Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
- May need to stand for long periods of time.
- Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
- Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.
