Senior Underwriter, Equipment Breakdown

Are you ready to help build a fast-growing business? As a Liberty Mutual equipment breakdown underwriter, you'll do exactly that. Our equipment breakdown team writes monoline business, internal reinsurance and external reinsurance, and we've grown rapidly over the past several years. As an underwriter, you'll help us reach our goal of doubling our business in the next several years.

You'll develop, grow and maintain a profitable, diversified book of business. You'll do this through marketing, underwriting decisions, strong agent and broker relationships, a market-facing leadership presence and smart use of underwriting tools, systems and expert resources. You'll also guide and mentor less experienced underwriters, coaching them and sharing feedback with their manager on their progress.

We're considering candidates for our underwriter or senior underwriter-level positions, depending on experience.

• →Risk selection: Review, rate and underwrite business applying for insurance. Qualify accounts, identify and assess risk, and determine premium, terms and conditions. Get approvals, present proposals to agents and brokers, and negotiate deals successfully.
• →Agent/broker relationships: Respond quickly and stay focused on what agents and brokers need. Build strong, lasting relationships through responsive service, site visits, in-person renewal meetings and a deep understanding of their customers' businesses. Grow your personal brand to build a long-term, high-quality pipeline with agents and brokers.
• →Portfolio management: Manage your book of business by analyzing the portfolio, spotting opportunities for growth, profit and diversification, and executing marketing plans — including broker calls — to grow market share.
• →Documenting the deal: Document files clearly, showing solid thinking and decision-making through comprehensive account reviews, sign-offs and referrals. Follow state regulations, letter-of-authority requirements and underwriting guidelines.
• →Leadership: Mentor and coach underwriters and account analysts, both formally and informally, on technical and professional skills.
• →Continuous improvement: Take part in problem-solving activities and use continuous-improvement tools to support your team's work.

Intermediate-level knowledge of insurance products/coverage, knowledge of underwriting, pricing, risk selection, market segments and marketplace; insurance finance and actuarial concepts; loss control/risk engineering; marketing techniques, regulatory environment and reinsurance; advanced-level knowledge of territory management. Ability to apply underwriting/appetite, tools, systems, and resources to achieve goals, solve complex problems, establish and build healthy working relationships, participate in mentoring relationships, and negotiate as normally acquired a related bachelor’s degree, two to seven years of relevant experience preferred; CPCU or professional insurance designation preferred.
