The Immigration Specialist is responsible for managing and supporting all employment-based immigration processes within the Human Resources department. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and international immigration laws while facilitating work authorization and visa sponsorship for employees. The specialist serves as a key liaison between employees, HR, legal counsel, and government agencies.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Manage end-to-end employment-based immigration processes, including nonimmigrant and immigrant visa petitions (e.g., H-1B, L-1, TN, PERM, green cards).
- →Coordinate with external immigration counsel to prepare and file petitions, applications, and supporting documentation.
- →Track visa expiration dates, work authorization status, and compliance deadlines; maintain accurate immigration records.
- →Advise HR partners, managers, and employees on immigration policies, procedures, and timelines.
- →Ensure compliance with applicable immigration laws and regulations, including I-9 employment eligibility verification.
- →Conduct internal audits of immigration files and processes to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- →Prepare reports and metrics related to immigration cases, trends, and costs.
- →Support global mobility initiatives, including international assignments and relocations.
- →Stay up to date on changes in immigration laws and proactively communicate impacts to stakeholders.
- →Assist with policy development and process improvements related to immigration programs.
Requirements
~1 min read- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Legal Studies, or a related field.
- 3–5+ years of experience in employment-based immigration, preferably in a corporate HR or legal environment.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. immigration laws and procedures (experience with global immigration is a plus).
- Experience working with immigration case management systems and HRIS platforms.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse populations.
- Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of discretion and confidentiality.
- Certification in HR (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) or immigration-related specialization.
- Experience collaborating with external legal counsel.
- Familiarity with global mobility and international assignment programs
The anticipated base salary range offered for this role will be between $65,000 to $85,000 and represents the firm’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the base compensation range. Actual base compensation will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, performance, qualifications, degrees, and location, as well as the needs of the firm.
