With real-time problem solving, resource planning, and hands-on leadership, this role makes a direct impact on operational efficiency and customer experience. Key Accountabilities:
In this role, you will:
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the terminal, ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely movement of freight while meeting service and productivity expectations.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to Dispatchers, Operations Coordinators, and Dockworkers, fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily operational activities, including inbound/outbound freight, dock operations, dispatch, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Monitor operational performance, staffing levels, and workflow throughout the day, making adjustments to meet customer and business requirements.
- Develop and maintain employee schedules to support operational demands while effectively managing labour costs.
- Lead performance management activities, including coaching, performance reviews, attendance management, discipline, and employee development.
- Ensure compliance with Company policies, health and safety standards, transportation regulations, and operational procedures.
- Partner with the Terminal Manager to implement operational initiatives, improve efficiencies, and achieve departmental objectives.
- Analyze operational metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs), identifying opportunities to improve productivity, service performance, and overall operational effectiveness.
- Investigate and resolve operational issues, customer concerns, and service failures in a timely and professional manner.
- Coordinate personnel and equipment utilization to maximize productivity and ensure service commitments are achieved.
- Maintain operational records, reports, communication logs, and documentation required to support efficient terminal operations.
- Foster open communication across Operations, Customer Service, Safety, and other departments to ensure seamless execution of daily operations.
- Ensure employees complete all required training, including mandatory regulatory or company training.
- Support employee onboarding, training, and ongoing development to build a high-performing operations team.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
We’re looking for someone who brings:
Education & Experience:
- Minimum 3–5 years of leadership experience in transportation, logistics, warehouse, or LTL operations.
- Experience leading multiple operational teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of LTL transportation, freight movement, dock operations, dispatch, scheduling, and customer service.
- Experience with labour planning, performance management, and employee coaching.
- Experience working in a unionized environment is considered an asset.
- Post-secondary education in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate teams while fostering accountability and collaboration.
- Strong organizational, planning, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities with the ability to prioritize competing demands.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to make sound operational decisions in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and transportation management systems.
- Strong customer service focus with the ability to build positive working relationships across departments.
- High attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Flexible and adaptable in a dynamic operational environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement.
