Performs code enforcement inspections at the city level, performs code enforcement for city regarding weeds, junk, abandoned vehicles, zoning, signage and substandard buildings.

20 hours or less per week. Starting Pay Rate is: $15.00 -17.00 DOQ

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Receives and responds to complaints regarding weeds, weedy lots, zoning, signage and junked and abandoned vehicles and other code violations;
    • Consults with property owners to show where violations are present and enforces compliance;
    • Generates and issues documentation in the forms of letters, notices, citations, and legal documents;
    • Coordinates with the City's third-party contractor for the removal or servicing of non-compliant properties;
    • Receives and responds to questions and concerns regarding code compliance;
    • Participates in joint code enforcement with Building Official, Assistant Building Official and Fire Marshal;
    • Provides follow-up on violations: notices, re-inspections, mitigation, etc.;
    • Consults with prosecutors and prepares case reports for municipal court action and testifies in municipal court as required;
    • Maintains records and files and a daily activity report of field investigative activities.

High school graduation or its equivalent; plus at least two years of excellent customer service with the public; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Peace officer license preferred to enforce ordinances dealing with the right of way.

Standard office practices and procedures with strong computer skills; basic scientific investigative and research skills; ability to read and interpret local ordinances.

Effectively read, interpret, and apply manuals, inspect and evaluate conditions of sites; apply safety standard to prevent hazards; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.

Valid Texas driver's license.

Peace officer license preferred to enforce ordinances dealing with the right of way.

Registered Code Enforcement Officer certification from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation required or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment.
