ArtHaus Properties | Oakland / East Bay, CA | Full-Time, In-Person
About the Role
~1 min readArtHaus Properties is building the compliance backbone for a fast-growing multifamily portfolio, and we are looking for the person to own it. We manage about 2,500 units across Oakland and Berkeley with plans to reach 3,500 to 4,000 in the next 18 to 24 months. Today, compliance lives in pieces across teams. Your job is to bring it together: build the systems, calendars, and audits that prevent the costly failures (audit findings, eviction dismissals, regulatory exposure) that drain time and money.
This role sits between property management and asset management. You will be the review point for anything that carries legal, insurance, regulatory, or application risk, and the systems owner who keeps the portfolio audit-ready. You will report to the Director of Property Management and work closely with Property Managers, Leasing, Finance, Legal, Operations, and Asset Management.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Subsidy program compliance (LIHTC, Section 8, affordable housing), from recertifications to agency reporting.
- →Regulatory, safety, and insurance compliance across the portfolio, including certificates of insurance and inspection deadlines.
- →Application and leasing compliance, keeping screening and lease decisions consistent and defensible.
- →Eviction oversight and Fair Housing review for roughly 20 to 30 cases a year.
- →Contract compliance: renewals, service levels, and vendor obligations.
- →Legal and pre-legal documentation, filed, organized, and discovery-ready.
- →The master compliance calendars and reporting that keep leadership informed.
This is a prevention role. Success is measured in what does not happen: zero audit findings, no eviction dismissals, no missed recertifications or filings, no lapsed insurance, and complete legal files ready on demand. We track these metrics monthly and reward them.
- Four or more years in multifamily property management, compliance, legal, or regulatory affairs.
- Working knowledge of LIHTC, Section 8, or other affordable housing compliance.
- Familiarity with California and Bay Area rental law, eviction procedure, and Fair Housing.
- Strong systems and organizational skills; Yardi experience is a plus.
- A detail-driven operator who would rather build a system than fight the same fire twice.
What We Offer
~1 min readAs we scale to 3,500 to 4,000 units, this role grows with us. The systems and culture you build become the foundation for a larger compliance function you can eventually lead.
ArtHaus Properties is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates.
