Job Description: 

The Quality Control Manager is responsible for managing and executing the quality control program for asphalt production and paving operations within the Mid‑West Central Region. This role ensures compliance with DOT specifications, project requirements, and company quality standards through effective testing, inspection, documentation, and corrective action. The Quality Control Manager works closely with operations, plant personnel, project teams, and inspectors to deliver consistent, high‑quality materials and workmanship.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain quality control procedures in accordance with DOT, project, and company requirements
  • Ensure proper sampling, testing, and inspection of asphalt materials and paving operations
  • Review test results daily and communicate issues, trends, or non‑compliance to Operations and QC leadership
  • Initiate and track corrective actions for materials, production, or field placement issues
  • Manage asphalt mix designs, approvals, and adjustments under the direction of the QC Director
  • Oversee field and plant testing, including density, gradation, binder content, and temperature control
  • Ensure testing equipment is properly calibrated and maintained
  • Coordinate with third‑party labs and inspectors as required
  • Ensure compliance with state DOT, municipal, and project specifications
  • Interface professionally with DOT representatives, inspectors, and engineers
  • Maintain required certifications, documentation, and audit readiness for labs and plants
  • Stay informed of specification changes and testing requirements
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen to support quality execution
  • Participate in pre‑construction meetings to review quality requirements and mix selections
  • Provide field support to troubleshoot quality or constructability issues
  • Assist with dispute resolution related to materials or quality concerns
  • Supervise and support QC technicians and laboratory staff
  • Schedule and assign testing personnel based on project needs
  • Train and mentor QC staff to improve consistency and technical competence
  • Promote safety, professionalism, and accountability within QC teams
  • Maintain accurate and timely quality documentation, reports, and certifications
  • Track quality metrics and assist in regional performance reporting
  • Support post‑project evaluations and continuous improvement efforts

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Materials Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience
  • 5–10 years of experience in asphalt quality control, materials testing, or heavy civil construction
  • Strong working knowledge of asphalt mix design, production, and paving operations
  • Experience working under DOT specifications and quality programs
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and test data
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the Mid‑West Central Region

Nice to Have

  • PE license or progress toward licensure
