Pennwood Cyber Charter School is a tuition-free, K-12 public cyber charter school serving students across Pennsylvania. Pennwood operates a 195-day instructional calendar that includes a three-week Connections Term (CTerm). CTerm expands opportunities for intervention, enrichment, relationship-building, career exploration, and personalized learning.

Position Summary 

Pennwood Cyber Charter School seeks Pennsylvania-certified educators who are responsible for delivering high-quality virtual instruction to students in assigned grades and subject areas. Working from home offices in Pennsylvania, our teachers manage instructional programming using the Learning Management System, telephone, internet, curriculum tools, and synchronous and asynchronous teaching practices. 

Teachers communicate regularly with students and Learning Coaches, monitor progress, provide timely feedback, maintain accurate records, and adapt instruction to strengthen understanding and engagement. Our teachers collaborate with colleagues, school leaders, counseling and engagement teams, and other staff to help students successfully complete their educational programs and support the continued success of Pennwood’s cyber learning program. 

Key Responsibilities 

Instruction and Student Learning 

  • Contribute to a culture of achievement by delivering asynchronous and synchronous instruction in whole-group, small-group, and individual settings. 
  • Complete grading, lesson preparation, and student and family communications within established timelines. 
  • Maintain a general knowledge of the K-12 curriculum and detailed knowledge of assigned courses, grades, and subject areas. 
  • Review curriculum and use alternate instructional approaches to increase student understanding and engagement. 
  • Support students and Learning Coaches with learning strategies, daily assignments, projects, and course expectations. 
  • Support implementation of Individualized Education Programs, accommodations, and modifications for students enrolled in assigned courses. 

Student Progress, Records, and Communication 

  • Communicate regularly with students and Learning Coaches through the Learning Management System, telephone, and other approved tools. 
  • Maintain accurate and current student records and data, including cumulative files, attendance, student and family information, and communication records. 
  • Monitor student progress and collaborate with the Engagement and Counseling Departments to support timely communication, adequate progress, and achievement of established goals. 
  • Consult with teachers, school staff, and leaders to develop enrichment activities and appropriate program modifications that strengthen student understanding and engagement. 

Collaboration and Professional Practice 

  • Collaborate regularly through professional learning communities and other team structures to develop and update Personal Learning Plans, score assessments, review student work, provide feedback, and refine instructional strategies. 
  • Participate in professional learning and apply new knowledge to instructional practice. 
  • Contribute to a collaborative, student-centered school culture and work effectively across grades, subjects, and departments. 
  • Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, organization, punctuality, flexibility, and ownership of assigned responsibilities. 

School Community and Organizational Support 

  • Develop and implement virtual approaches that build and maintain a strong school community within assigned courses. 
  • Collaborate with teachers and school staff to coordinate student social activities, field trips, and community events. 
  • Manage or attend field trips and community activities and connect those experiences to student learning when appropriate. 
  • Participate in the organization and administration of state assessments and other school events, as assigned. 
  • Participate in student recruitment sessions and other outreach or marketing activities requiring teacher representation. 
  • Work occasional evening hours and travel, including possible overnight travel, as needed to support students, families, testing, and school events. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications 

  • Active Pennsylvania instructional certification appropriate for the assigned grade level and subject area. 
  • Pennsylvania residency. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. 
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills. 
  • Demonstrated student-centered approach, flexibility, agility, and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively as a member of a team. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a remote, technology-driven environment. 
  • Ability to travel for state testing, school events, and outreach activities, including possible overnight travel. 
  • Ability to work occasional evening hours, as needed to support students and families. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, learning management systems, and related technology. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Additional Pennsylvania instructional certifications or endorsements, including English learner or multiple subject-area credentials. 
  • Experience teaching in a virtual, online, or blended learning environment.
