The RoleBe
We are seeking a Full‑Time, Permanent Sous Chef to join our busy kitchen team. This role is ideal for someone who is committed to high standards, enjoys working in a fast‑paced environment, and is keen to continue developing their culinary skills.
This position offers a minimum of 30 hours per week, with the potential to work up to 60 hours depending on business needs.
This is a position which requires you to set an example in the kitchen with your exemplary cooking skills, and maintaining the highest of standards.
Your responsibilities include:
- Completing ordering and stocktaking to plan and manage food costs
- Monitoring quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation
- Discussing food preparation issues with managers, kitchen and waiting staff
- Demonstrating techniques and advising on cooking procedures
- Preparing and cooking food to a consistently high standard
- Understanding the food control plan and understanding the cleaning standards and processes within the kitchen
- Ensure all food is prepped and portion controlled prior to service to ensure no food prep is required to be completed during service
- Ensuring clear communication between the kitchen, front of house and head office
Skills / Experience & Qualifications Required
- A relevant culinary qualification at NZQCF Level 4 or higher, or
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in a commercial kitchen
- Ability to work efficiently in a high‑volume environment
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team
This level of skill is required to ensure safe food handling, consistent quality, and the ability to work independently in a high‑volume kitchen.
