Millennium Galvanizing can also perform painting, metalizing and paint over bare blasted steel as well as paint over galvanized steel for sensitive areas of installation that require an aesthetically pleasing coating application.

Millennium Galvanizing is looking for a Safety Specialist to join the team in Convent, LA.
The Safety Specialist is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of all Millennium Galvanizing employees.  This position will confirm compliance with all state and federal regulations.  The Safety Specialist plans, implements, and coordinates safety programs to prevent or correct unsafe environmental working conditions.
 
  • Performs quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.

  • Works independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
  • Communicates regularly with supervisor about Department issues.

  • Leads in the review of current policies and training programs in order to provide for continuous improvements.
  • Initiates and develops company policies and procedures that maintain safety measures throughout the entire organization.
  • Makes recommendations for projects or safety programs.
  • Administers the Millennium Galvanizing safety program with the goal of reducing the number and severity of Plant accidents and injuries.
  • Provides reports with updates on the safety and loss control programs, accidents, and injury status.
  • Surveys current safety literature and attends relevant seminars and meetings to ensure ongoing preparedness on topics related to safety improvement and hazard prevention.
  • Monitors and maintains compliance with all government safety regulations as well as corporate policies and procedures relative to the same.
  • Maintains a system for reporting, monitoring, and correcting all safety problems.
  • Tracks all events for Plant management evaluations and reports quarterly on such findings.
  • Responsible for Plant OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Ensures that all state, federal, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules are posted and observed.
  • Responsible for performing all new employees’ safety orientation classes at the Plant.
  • Takes lead for the organization of training and support to ensure the well being of all employees, customers, and the community that may interact with the company.
  • Assists supervisors and leadpeople in the training of their personnel for general safety items as well as training relative to each particular Plant operation.
  • Organizes and provides for training relative to emergency events or disasters as required by our insurance carriers.
  • Ensures that corrective action is initiated by the supervisor responsible for the area, and provides assistance as needed to establish priorities and procedures.
  • Responsible for evaluating and administering company safety incentive programs as directed by company management.
  • Monitors and advises controls for industrial hygiene, which relates to the long term effects of factors such as chemical exposure, noise, lighting, heat, humidity, and radiation.
  • Monitors and assists supervisors in their dispensing of first aid and safety related goods.
  • Evaluates with management all safety equipment at the Plant site.
  • Supports the Dis-Tran Plant Environmental Manager by training in key areas as needed.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
  • At least the years of experience in industrial safety required.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and standards (waste water, air quality, etc.) required.
  • Knowledge of state, federal, and local industrial health and safety regulations and programs (OSHA, PPE, etc.) is required.
  • Epicor (or other ERP) experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Access required.
  • Regular, reliable attendance is required.
