Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive home-based prevention services to eligible families participating in the New Parent Support Program (NPSP).
  • Prioritize home visits to high-need NPSP clients.
  • Conduct home visits and other contacts with low-need NPSP clients.
  • Provide appropriate support to FAP maltreatment clients as directed.
  • Establish and manage NPSP services while maintaining primary case management responsibility for assigned NPSP clients.
  • Coordinate with the MTF Chief Nurse regarding nursing practice standards and integration into the MTF.
  • Maintain current knowledge of maternal, child, family, and family-violence nursing practices.
  • Participate in Clinical Case Staffing, NPSP Case Staffing, Family Advocacy Committee meetings, peer review, and other required program activities.
  • Conduct home visits for families receiving NPSP services or nursing intervention pursuant to a maltreatment plan.
  • Provide briefings, reports, education, advocacy, and NPSP support and marketing.
  • Provide anticipatory guidance addressing child growth and development, nutrition, parenting, attachment and bonding, family health, family violence dynamics, problem solving, communication skills, and bereavement.
  • Collaborate with FAP personnel to provide targeted prevention education and awareness activities.

Requirements

  • Citizenship:
    • U.S. citizenship is required based on contract requirements
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution
  • Licensure & Certifications:
    • Must be a U.S. Registered Nurse (RN)
    • Must maintain a current, unrestricted U.S. state nursing license
    • Must not currently be under investigation for adverse action by a State Nursing Board
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from either:
      • The American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS) (Course C) or the American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/BLS (Heart Saver) Course.
  • Experience: 
    • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Community Health Nurse, Maternal Child Health Nurse, or direct work experience with child abuse or domestic abuse
    • Experience conducting in-home visits is highly encouraged
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Willingness to comply with the government vaccination requirements, reflected of CDC guidelines, for diseases including Hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, influenza, and proof of a negative TB skin test. This requirement is for any Family Advocacy Program personnel working with MTFs and requires personnel to receive the annual influenza vaccination.
