Reporting to and under the general supervision of the Director of Disability Services for Students (DSS), the Disability Management Advisor performs a wide variety of generally complex Student Services Professional work by providing comprehensive academic accommodation services to eligible Sonoma State University students. The incumbent determines and evaluates eligibility for DSS services after careful review of detailed and complex disability-related medical/psychological documentation; determines appropriate academic accommodation based on the functional limitations associated with one's disability; provides comprehensive academic advising; and participates in educational endeavors to ensure the university complies with Federal and State equal access laws. The incumbent assists in the design, implementation, planning and coordination of comprehensive and integrated disability support services. The incumbent performs complex work utilizing intermediate-level analytical and interpersonal skills where assignments include department, division and campus-wide responsibilities. The incumbent works closely with the Director in order to keep up-to-date on complex and ever-evolving equal access laws such as the ADAAA, Sections 504 & 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, CSU Executive Orders, and other system-wide mandates in order to assist the university in providing equal access to the educational process for students with disabilities.

This position requires the equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related. Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent to three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required. A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. Candidates with learning disability assessment experience highly desired. Experience keeping records and correspondence by computer and demonstrated effective communication skills, both orally and written, are required. Prior experience working with students who have learning disabilities and interpreting assessments within a university environment is preferred. Intermediate computer proficiency using Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft, and Titanium is preferred.

Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and will not exceed $5,540 a month. This is a full time, exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period.

In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within Sonoma State University student housing facilities for three years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus. A paper copy of the AFSR is available upon request by contacting the Residential Education and Campus Housing at housing@sonoma.edu.
