• Casual role available, no guaranteed hours per week
• Casual rates apply depending on experience ($47.74 to $52.28) plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and casual loading
• Based in Gloucester

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is offering a unique opportunity for casual ‘Discovery Rangers’ to join the Hunter Central Coast Branch team in Gloucester. This role delivers memorable visitor experiences at Copeland Tops State Conservation Area, including guided twilight tours, the iconic Mountain Maid underground mine tours, and interpretation of the historic mining precinct.

You will lead visitors through underground mine workings and heritage precincts, sharing stories of the area's rich gold mining history, natural environment and cultural heritage. You will engage diverse audiences through interpretive storytelling, educational experiences and guided activities that foster appreciation of NSW's natural and cultural heritage.

The role includes welcoming visitors, conducting guided tours, supporting special events and school holiday activities, maintaining visitor safety, and developing visitor experiences. Opportunities also exist across the wider Hunter Central Coast Branch. There are opportunities for ongoing training and development.

• You are a confident, engaging communicator with a passion for connecting people to nature, history and heritage.
• You have an interest in local history, and/or mining heritage, environmental conservation and visitor experience; and awareness of NPWS values.

• You will need to be able to respond to various questions and situations with varying stakeholders.
• Self-management is important as there may be times you will be working unsupervised, or as part of a team.

• You are committed to visitor safety and can confidently manage groups in outdoor and underground environments.
• Experience in heritage interpretation, guided tours, tourism, outdoor recreation, environmental education or customer service will be highly regarded.
• You will need strong digital skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as confidence in using online platforms and tools.
• You are enthusiastic, adaptable and comfortable working flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, public holidays and school holiday periods.

• A current Working with Children Check (WWCC) is an essential requirement. The role has been identified as requiring this check in line with the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012.
• First Aid Certificate and Current Australian Drivers Licence, or willingness to obtain.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekdays, weekends, public holidays and school holidays
• Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering interpretative guiding and/or educational programs to students or groups.
• Awareness of Aboriginal culture and broad knowledge of the natural and cultural heritage values of the local area.  
• Sound understanding of Risk Management, Minimal Impact and Bush Safety principles in relation to guided tours in a cultural or field setting.
