  • Temporary, full-time opportunity (35 hours per week) Up to June 2029
  • Office location - Parramatta or location negotiable across NSW. Hybrid working supported.
  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $112,375 to $124,158 + super

The Conservation and Restoration Science Branch of the Science and Insights Division is seeking an experienced Scientist Spatial to deliver spatial analysis, mapping and environmental data solutions that support biodiversity science and conservation outcomes across NSW.

 

As a Scientist Spatial, you'll use mapping, spatial analysis and environmental data to support biodiversity conservation and restoration programs across NSW. Working with scientists and project teams, you'll develop spatial products, manage complex datasets and provide insights that inform environmental decision-making. Your work will contribute to the delivery of evidence-based science that helps protect and restore the state's natural environment and biodiversity.

 

 

You have working experience analysing biodiversity or environmental spatial data and are confident using geographical information systems (GIS) and related spatial tools and ideally coding with  R, Python or similar platforms. You enjoy turning complex datasets into meaningful insights and delivering accurate, high-quality outputs. Additionally, you will have demonstrated attention to standard procedures, quality control, workflow optimisation and process-first, collaborative management of spatial datasets of varied providence and formats

 

You work well with technical and science experts, communicate technical information clearly and can manage competing priorities across multiple projects. Curious and solutions-focused, you're motivated by applying spatial science to real-world environmental challenges and achieving practical conservation outcomes.

  • Demonstrated expertise in computer-based mapping and analysis of biodiversity and environmental spatial data.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in GIS software programs (R, Python, ArcGIS and/or open-source platforms) and management of large spatial datasets.

  • A current Class C driver licence and a willingness and ability to travel for work.
