Job Summary:
The Inventory Coordinator is responsible for maintaining strict control, organization, and accuracy of all materials, tools, and product flow within the commercial fabrication shop. This role ensures that inventory is properly tracked, stored, protected, and available when needed—without disruption, loss, or misuse.
Acting as the central point of control for materials, the Inventory Coordinator enforces processes, maintains order in the shop, and ensures that only authorized materials are accessed or moved. This role requires a highly organized, detail-oriented individual who is confident setting boundaries and holding team members accountable to established systems and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate, real-time tracking of all inventory, including raw materials, finished goods, and shop supplies
- Organize and control the layout of materials, ensuring everything is clearly labeled, stored, and easy to locate
- Oversee all shipping and receiving, ensuring accuracy, proper documentation, and timely processing
- Enforce inventory control processes, including sign-out systems, restricted access, and material handling procedures
- Act as the gatekeeper for materials—ensuring items are only used, moved, or issued through proper channels
- Conduct regular inventory counts, reconciliations, and audits to maintain accuracy and minimize discrepancies
- Coordinate material flow to support production needs while preventing overuse, shortages, or waste
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe shop environment with a strong focus on organization and efficiency
- Work closely with production, procurement, and management to forecast material needs and resolve shortages
- Identify and implement improvements to inventory systems, storage, and workflow processes
- Monitor and report on inventory levels, usage trends, and potential risks
Requirements
- Experience in inventory control, warehouse coordination, or materials/materials management (manufacturing or fabrication environment preferred)
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Proven ability to enforce processes, set boundaries, and hold others accountable in a fast-paced environment
- Confidence to control access to materials and ensure procedures are consistently followed
- Experience with inventory tracking systems (Excel required; ERP systems considered an asset)
- Ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and manage multiple tasks effectively
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with shop staff, procurement, and leadership
- Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and highly organized workspace
- Familiarity with workplace safety standards and best practices
Assets:
- Experience working with fabrication, manufacturing, or construction materials
- Ability to read blueprints/drawings
- AutoCAD experience
