LATAM Software Engineer — AfterQuery

Location: LATAM (Fully Remote)
Compensation: $84,000 – $120,000 base + competitive equity
Employment Type: Full-Time

AfterQuery builds training data and evaluation infrastructure used by leading frontier AI labs. The company partners directly with top labs to design high-signal datasets and evaluation systems that go beyond traditional benchmarks. They are a post–Series A company with rapid growth and a small, high-impact team operating at the intersection of research and production systems.

This is a hybrid research engineering and platform engineering role with full ownership across projects. Engineers work across RL environments, agent systems, distributed infrastructure, and user-facing tools — contributing directly to systems used by frontier AI labs. This is not a role for engineers who need heavy direction; Afterquery is looking for strong builders who can operate across both research and production environments with high autonomy and intensity.

• Design and build scalable systems including RL environments, APIs, and human-in-the-loop platforms
• Develop distributed systems and infrastructure for large-scale data and evaluation workflows
• Collaborate across research, product, and design to deliver high-quality features quickly
• Write maintainable, production-ready code and contribute to documentation
• Participate in system design discussions and code reviews
• Solve scalability, reliability, and performance challenges in real-world systems
• Build and maintain infrastructure supporting evaluation and training pipelines for AI models

• Strong coding fundamentals in Node.js and TypeScript, Python, and/or Go
• Deep understanding of distributed systems and system design
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP, Kubernetes, APIs, and NoSQL systems
• Ability to balance speed and reliability in high-pressure environments
• Active GitHub with meaningful personal or professional projects
• High ownership and ability to work autonomously in fast-paced environments
• Strong communication skills and clear motivation for working in AI and startups

• Experience with reinforcement learning environments or agent systems
• Background at a top-tier quant firm or high-growth startup
• Experience building human-in-the-loop systems or evaluation platforms
• Prior founding experience or building technically complex products

• Engineers who lack proactivity or need heavy direction
• Candidates unable to clearly articulate motivation for AI or startup work
• Profiles with only large enterprise experience and no evidence of operating in fast-paced environments
