Responsibilities

→Complete dental prophylaxis by cleaning deposits and stains from teeth and beneath gum margins.
→Detect disease by performing oral cancer screenings and examining gums for periodontal disease.
→Arrest dental decay through the application of fluorides and other cavity-preventing agents.
→Assist the dentist in managing dental and medical emergencies by maintaining CPR certification and emergency supplies.
→Educate patients on oral hygiene, plaque control, and postoperative care, and provide reminders for upcoming visits.
→Document dental hygiene services by recording vital signs, medical and dental histories, and charting in patient records.
→Ensure the operation of dental equipment through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and keeping up with new techniques.
→Manage dental supplies by maintaining inventory, anticipating needs, and verifying receipt of supplies.
→Maintain professional knowledge by attending educational workshops and participating in professional societies.
