About the Role

~1 min read

We are seeking a highly capable Senior SQL Database Administrator to monitor, support and maintain business-critical Microsoft SQL Server environments across multiple customer environments.

This role is suited to an experienced database professional who combines strong technical troubleshooting skills with a proactive approach, clear communication and a strong sense of ownership. You will assess and triage incidents, investigate root causes, develop effective resolution plans and manage issues through to successful resolution.

You will also work directly with customers and internal technical teams, providing clear updates, documenting solutions and identifying opportunities to improve the reliability, performance and resilience of SQL Server environments.

You will be working with an established Australian IT services and consulting partner specialising in database consulting, database management and data consulting. The organisation supports business-critical data environments, helping customers maintain secure, highly available, recoverable and optimised database platforms.

Its approach spans assessment, solution design, implementation and ongoing management, with a strong focus on technical excellence, continuous improvement and delivering reliable outcomes for customers.

  • Senior-level experience administering and supporting production Microsoft SQL Server environments.
  • Experience working across multiple SQL Server versions.
  • Proven ability to monitor, assess, triage and resolve database incidents.
  • Experience communicating directly with customers and business stakeholders during technical investigations.
  • Demonstrated ownership of database issues from initial alert through to resolution and documentation.
  • Strong Microsoft SQL Server administration, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting expertise.
  • High Availability and Disaster Recovery configuration and support.
  • Experience with database mirroring, replication and data synchronisation.
  • Database monitoring, alert assessment and incident triage.
  • Root-cause investigation and development of technically sound resolution plans.
  • SQL Server performance analysis and optimisation.
  • Backup, restoration and recovery processes.
  • Database patching, upgrades and version compatibility.
  • User access, roles, permissions and database security controls.
  • Strong technical documentation capabilities.
  • Good understanding of incident, problem and change-management processes.
  • Previous experience in an MSP or multi-customer support environment.
  • Exposure to cloud-hosted or managed SQL database services.
  • Experience with database migration or modernisation projects.
  • Automation or scripting experience for database administration.
  • Familiarity with ITIL-aligned service-management practices.
  • Relevant Microsoft SQL Server or database certifications.
  • Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to junior database administrators or support engineers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a collaborative approach.
  • Confidence communicating technical findings, risks and resolution plans directly to customers.
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to identify and progress the next action independently.
  • Strong ownership and accountability throughout the investigation and resolution lifecycle.
  • Sound judgement when navigating technical limitations, with the ability to implement appropriate workarounds and escalate when necessary.
  • Calm and methodical approach when managing critical or high-impact incidents.
  • Confident technical decision-making based on evidence and sound analysis.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple customer environments.
  • Excellent documentation, prioritisation and time-management skills.
  • Customer-focused and professional communication style.
