Responsibilities

  • Assist senior investigative analysts with organizing and gathering case files in long-term investigations and prosecutions of violent organized crime, including street gangs, major narcotics dealers, interstate gun traffickers, and gang-related homicides.
  • Conduct basic open-source searches on investigative targets and create profiles based on results.
  • Mine social media content and search warrant returns for corroborating evidence for review by senior analysts or attorneys.
  • Reviews documentary evidence, including cell-site, call detail, financial, and social media records, to develop coherent understanding of the details of the case. 
  • Assist in gathering and organizing data relevant to specific unit investigations and cases.
  • Provide support to senior staff in coordinating with police detectives and federal agents.
  • Assist in reviewing evidence from multiple sources and help identify basic connections or patterns on how the items of evidence are related and interact with one another.
  • Review and transcribe Department of Corrections phone calls and wiretap phone calls and prepare integrated trial exhibits presenting the recordings and the investigation’s findings.
  • Draft and prepare trial and Grand Jury exhibits that effectively present the items of evidence and conclusions that can be drawn from them.
  • Draft and summarize field intelligence and evidence into a clear, coherent, and persuasive narrative to be presented in the courtroom.
  • Perform other administrative tasks including data entry, document preparation, and paralegal duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Level 1 – bachelor’s degree from an accredited college.
  • Level 2 – bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and one (1) year of experience either as a paralegal in the criminal justice field or equivalent.
  • Level 3 – bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience either as a paralegal in the criminal justice field or equivalent.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience either as a paralegal in the criminal justice field or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in the use of Excel to manage large amounts of data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, and/or Clear required.
  • Proficiency in Internet search strategies and techniques.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple assignments required.
  • Ability to think and perform in a highly stressful and fast paced environment required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with financial institutions, regulators, and law enforcement agencies to build institutional relationships a must.
  • Ability to communicate investigative results to other team members and to testify in court regarding investigative results is also required.
  • Superior organizational, time management, writing and communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to retain on the job training for majority of responsibilities and tasks.
  • Ability to be proactive and take initiative.

  • Current office employees: To be eligible for a transfer or promotion, staff must have already served at least 1 year in their current unit/bureau/department and be in good standing. In addition, must meet the minimum and additional qualifications of the position.
