Lab Operations Intern

About the Role: We’re looking for a curious, hands-on intern to join our Lab Management crew in San Francisco. This role sits at the intersection of Technical Support, Lab Operations, and Project Coordination—aka, you’ll be right in the middle of the action, helping keep our labs running smoothly while driving improvements behind the scenes. If you’re the kind of person who cares about what’s happening in the booth, behind the wall, or under the hood just as much as what’s happening on screen or on stage, this is the role for you. In this role, you’ll partner with senior engineers, lab ops, and cross-functional teams to keep systems humming, solve real-world problems, and bring new ideas to life. Whether you’re troubleshooting issues, supporting lab users, or helping roll out new installations and upgrades, you’ll have a direct impact on how our labs operate today and in the future. What You’ll Do: Projects & Technical Exposure * Jump into live lab projects—upgrade equipment, set up new spaces, and improve existing environments * Help rebuild how we track projects (milestones, timelines, action items) using AI tools * Get hands-on with troubleshooting across audio, video, control systems, and compute environments (with support from engineers) * Create and update clear, usable docs (project pages, CAD drawings, runbooks) Lab Operations * Keep labs organized, stocked, and ready for action day-to-day * Join lab walks to flag and resolve real issues - cleanliness, safety (EHS), space usage, and setup gaps * Own and update task trackers—what’s broken, what’s next, what’s blocked * Coordinate fixes with facilities, vendors, and internal teams to keep things moving fast * Manage inventory and equipment organization so nothing gets lost or delayed * Document “how we do things,” spot inefficiencies and prototype smarter workflows using data, automation, and AI What We’re Looking For: * Detail-obsessed and organized — you notice what others miss and keep things on track * Know your way around AV signal flow (or excited to learn fast) * Use AI as a tool, not a buzzword — you’ve applied it to rethink your own workflows or simplify messy processes * Fixer mindset — if something’s broken, confusing, or inefficient, you jump in and improve it * Comfortable getting your hands dirty — using cable termination tools, testers, and basic mechanical gear is part of the job * Curious about how spaces work — from listening rooms to theaters, you want to understand what’s happening behind the scenes * Adaptable and game to switch gears — one minute you’re troubleshooting hardware, the next you’re updating docs or chasing down a vendor Nice to have (not required): * Can read CAD drawings and wire diagrams without getting lost * Comfortable with Office 365, Copilot, drafting tools, or media production tools * Some exposure to engineering, IT, or AV environments (labs, studios, theaters, etc.) * Interested in operations, systems design, or project management * Experience organizing messy data or streamlining a process What You’ll Gain: * You won’t be stuck on the sidelines — you’ll get hands-on with real labs, real systems, and real problems from day one * You’ll work on cutting-edge audio, video, and compute environments — the kind of spaces most people never get behind the scenes of * You’ll see your work show up immediately — you’re work enables the future of Dolby’s innovation * Work behind the scenes of high-performance audio + video spaces most people never see * Work side-by-side with some of the best A/V engineers in the world (if we do say so ourselves) * Use AI to actually change how work happens, not just talk about it Eligibility: Working towards Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM field. Candidates with a background in other STEM disciplines (e.g., Mathematics) are also encouraged to apply. Recent graduates (within 6 months of graduation) are eligible. Must be available to work full-time Monday – Friday for 6 months between September 2026- March 2027. Start dates for the internship are as follows: (*note* this date is not flexible) * September 21, 2026 The San Francisco/Bay Area base hourly range for this internship position is $33-38/hr and can vary if outside of this location. Our hourly ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
