Position Title: Medical Director

Supervisor’s Title: Chief Medical Officer

Program or Dept: Behavioral Health Services Location

*Competitive salary: $185,000- $235,000 annual salary range for this full-time, exempt position 

The Medical Director serves as the physician leader for behavioral health services, providing psychiatric care, medical oversight, and clinical supervision across the organization. Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, the Medical Director supports assigned programs and other medical providers to ensure high-quality, evidence-based, person-centered care, regulatory compliance, continuous quality improvement, and clinical excellence.

Job Functions: * denotes essential job duties

·       *Provide psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, treatment planning, medication management, and ongoing psychiatric care for individuals receiving behavioral health services. 

·       *Assess and manage psychiatric emergencies, crisis situations, and involuntary commitment evaluations when appropriate. 

·       *Provide consultation regarding complex psychiatric, substance use, and co-occurring medical conditions. 

·       *Support and oversee the delivery of telehealth services to ensure compliance with clinical, regulatory, payer, and organizational standards.

·       Collaborate with interdisciplinary treatment teams to support person-centered treatment and discharge planning. 

·       Ensure timely, accurate, and complete clinical documentation in accordance with organizational, regulatory, and payer requirements. 

• *Serve as the physician leader for assigned programs providing clinical consultation to interdisciplinary staff. 

• *Provide clinical supervision and oversight of psychiatric nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other medical providers across the organization. 
• *Provide oversight of Collaborative Practice Agreements and supervision requirements for nurse practitioners and physician assistants in accordance with North Carolina regulations and organizational policies.

• *Conduct regular case consultations, chart reviews, and provider mentoring to promote quality and consistency of care. 

• Support provider credentialing, privileging, onboarding, and professional development activities. 

• Establish and monitor clinical standards, prescribing practices, and evidence-based treatment protocols. 

• Promote integration of behavioral health, primary care, and substance use treatment services. 

• *Monitor key performance indicators including patient outcomes, hospitalization and readmission rates, medication adherence, and high-risk medication monitoring. 

• *Participate in peer review, utilization management, incident review, and risk management activities. 

• Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, accreditation standards, payer requirements, and organizational policies. 

• Support organizational readiness for audits, accreditation reviews, and regulatory inspections. 

• Identify opportunities for service improvement and implement corrective actions as needed. 

• →*Collaborate with senior leadership in strategic planning, program development, and service expansion initiatives. 

• →*Support provider recruitment, retention, workforce planning, and succession planning efforts. 

• →Foster collaborative relationships with hospitals, community partners, managed care organizations, and referral sources. 

• →Maintain clinical productivity expectations while fulfilling leadership and administrative responsibilities. 

• Follows all Easterseals PORT Health Policies and Procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned and consistent with qualifications.

·       Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school. 

·       Completion of an accredited Psychiatry Residency Program. 

·       Licensure and Certification. 

·       Current, unrestricted North Carolina Medical License. 

·       Current DEA registration and unrestricted prescribing authority. 

·       Three to five years of post-residency psychiatric practice. Five or more years of psychiatric practice with supervisory, medical leadership, or community behavioral health experience, preferred

·       Experience treating individuals with serious mental illness, substance use disorders, and co-occurring conditions. 

·       ASAM certification or addiction medicine experience preferred. 

·       Must have a valid, unrestricted, state appropriate driver’s license for the State of North Carolina and personal vehicle insurance.

·       Must have reliable transportation that will allow movement throughout the program delivery area.

• Must be able to physically perform the basic life functions of talking, hearing, sitting for long periods of time and performing repetitive motions, such as using a computer

·       Must be able to perform the physical tasks necessary to evaluate individuals supported, such as lifting, bending and standing.

·       Must possess the necessary abilities to perform tasks such as develop written communication as well as reviewing work to determine accuracy.

·       The job functions will mostly occur within an office environment or a home office space.
