At Danone USA manufacturing excellence starts with reliable utility systems. We're looking for an experienced Utilities Manager to lead the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the critical infrastructure that powers our extra-large manufacturing plant in West Jordan, Utah. 

As the Utilities Manager, reporting into the site Maintenance Director, you'll oversee ammonia refrigeration, steam boilers, compressed air systems, electrical distribution, water treatment, cooling towers, HVAC, and facility infrastructure while leading a team of skilled mechanics. You'll play a key role in improving asset reliability, reducing downtime, and developing a proactive maintenance culture. 

 

Responsibilities

  • →Lead daily operations and maintenance of plant utility systems
  • →Manage, coach and develop a team of utility mechanics supporting a 24/7 manufacturing operation
  • →Drive reliability improvements through preventive and predictive maintenance programs
  • →Own key maintenance systems including Breakdown Elimination, Defect Handling, and Planning & Scheduling
  • →Analyze equipment performance, identify losses, and implement sustainable solutions
  • →Support capital projects, equipment startups, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • →Partner with operations, engineering, and maintenance leadership to improve safety, quality, and equipment performance
  • →Ensure environmental systems operate within permit requirements and company standards
  • →Other duties as assigned

 

  • While performing duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop; kneel; crouch; crawl; taste and/or smell, talk and hear.
  • Ability to bend & stoop at waist level as well as bend & twist neck and head.
  • The employee must regularly endure repetitive minimal to moderate lifting 10lbs up to 50lbs and occasional team lifting above 50lbs. Requires normal range of hearing and vision (including colors) to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports and results.
  • The employee is frequently standing on a concrete surface for 8-, 10- or 12-hour shifts.
  • Occasionally may need to climb stairs, step ladders, stool.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Ability to work up to 12-hour shifts.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.  The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and may be exposed to loud noises in the plant.  The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to extreme cold, risk of electrical shock and vibration.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred
  • 5+ years’ of progressive work experience in a utility focused role responsible for ammonia refrigeration, steam boiler, and air compressor operations and maintenance required
  • 3+ years’ manufacturing experience with demonstrated technical aptitude and leadership required
  • Experience working with a CMMS system like MVP, SAP, Maximo required
  • Experienced in supervising support personnel required

 

  • Fundamental knowledge of maintenance planning and scheduling systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience troubleshooting electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work in a fluid environment
  • Ability to identify problems, draw conclusions, and make recommended solutions
  • Ability to be self-directed with little supervision
  • Understand TPM and continuous improvement methods
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Working knowledge of screw compressors, electrical troubleshooting all common types of ammonia central systems, & control/alarm systems, water tube and fire tube boilers, and compressed air systems
  • HAZ-MAT training
  • RETA 1&2 certification a plus
  • Process Safety Management training
  • Ability to adjust schedule to support 24/7 Manufacturing Operation; may include working graveyard shift and/or weekends as needed.  Availability to be on call nights and/or weekends as required
