ONE (1) ASSISTANT RESEARCHER A’ POSITION AT THE RESILIENT SOCIETY DEPARTMENT
 
ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence (www.eratosthenes.org.cy) of Cyprus University of Technology (www.cut.ac.cy) invites applications for up to one (1) positions at the Assistant Researcher A’ level at Resilient Society Department of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence. The positions are open either on a full-time (100%) or part-time employment basis. The successful candidates will conduct research and develop products under Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence projects funded by the European Union, including the flagship Excelsior H2020 Teaming project (https://excelsior2020.eu/) and the EXCALIBUR project.

ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence is an autonomous Centre of Excellence with Cyprus University of Technology as its sole stakeholder, specialising in earth observation, space technology and geospatial analysis. Cyprus University of Technology has more than 17-years experience in earth observations and geospatial analysis. Through the “EXCELSIOR” H2020 Teaming Project (https://excelsior2020.eu/), ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence aspires to become a Digital Innovation Hub for Earth Observation and Geospatial Information by offering knowledge, responsible research, open innovation and application services capable of sustaining Cyprus’ development. ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence aspires to actively contribute to the European Research Area (ERA) priorities in Atmosphere and Climate, Resilient Societies and Big Earth Data Analytics, as well as to become the reference Earth Observation/Geoinformation Centre for research and innovation in the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa (EMMENA) region.

A core activity of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence is to conduct high caliber, state-of-the-art research, both basic and applied. A central task is to acquire research funding for the Centre, to provide facilities to the researchers, and to support them to acquire funding for their research independently and via international and local collaborations. Collaborations with industrial partners are particularly encouraged and facilitated.
 
Description of the Position

This position concerns researchers with a postgraduate degree.
 
Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be placed in the Resilient Society Department of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence and is expected to contribute towards shaping and advancing its research and innovation agenda.

• Contribute to the definition of technical specifications for the design and deployment of remote sensing application using Active and Passive sensors for the study of archaeological sites, especially in burial context.
• Support the planning and implementation of pilot heritage protection activities exploiting aerial and terrestrial active and passive sensors.
• Contribute to the design, development, and implementation of AI and ML based tools for automatic processing and analysis of 2D and 3D data.
• Collect, process, and analyze environmental and spatial data related to cultural heritage monitoring and conservation.
• Collect, process, and analyze range- and image-based data for Cultural Heritage documentation.
• Participation in the preparation and submission of project deliverables.
• Organization / Participation in meetings with the funding team.
• Undertaking any other relevant duties deemed necessary.

Qualifications

• B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Cultural Studies and/or Social Sciences, related to Informatics;
• Knowledge of programming languages (Python, R, C++, MATLAB) is required;
• Previous proven experience in processing 2D and 3D heritage related data will be considered an advantage;
• Previous proven experience in statistical analysis (i.e., Random Forest K-mean clustering) will be considered an advantage;
• Proven previous experience with Remote Sensing analysis is required;
• Experience in the preparation of technical reports and project documentation;
• Experience in resource allocation and general management of Research and Development projects;
• Experience in writing and implementation of Research and Development  projects;
• Ability to work efficiently under strict deadlines;
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and coordinate with project partners;
• Advanced knowledge of the English language both verbal and in writing is required.

The appointment will be for twelve (12) months with a probation period of six (6) months. The annual gross salary for the (full-time) position will range from €25468.08 to €35778.08, depending on qualifications. It is noted that there is provision for 13th salary (the cost of the 13th salary is proportionally incorporated in the monthly remuneration).
