The position is open either on a full-time (100%) or part-time employment basis. The successful candidate will work under Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence for the services entitled “Addressing coastal erosion and flooding of beaches of tourist and ecological importance using environmentally friendly methods, in light of climate change (ECO-BEACHTECH)” funded by the  Operational Programme INTERREG VI-A GREECE – CYPRUS 2021-2027, which is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and by national resources of Greece and Cyprus.

ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence is an autonomous Centre of Excellence with Cyprus University of Technology as its sole stakeholder, specialising in earth observation, space technology and geospatial analysis. Cyprus University of Technology has more than 17-years experience in earth observations and geospatial analysis. Through the ‘EXCELSIOR’ H2020 Teaming Project (https://excelsior2020.eu/), ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence aspires to become a Digital Innovation Hub for Earth Observation and Geospatial Information by offering knowledge, responsible research, open innovation and application services capable of sustaining Cyprus’ development. A central task is to acquire research funding for the Centre, to provide facilities to the researchers, and to support them to acquire funding for their research independently and via international and local collaborations. Collaborations with industrial partners are particularly encouraged and facilitated.

Brief Description of the service

The position will involve working on the ECO-BEACHTECH project, with a focus on activities related to the pilot application of coastal protection measures and the monitoring of their performance.
Specifically, the role will support the design, implementation, and evaluation of nature-based solutions for addressing coastal erosion and mitigating flood risks, with emphasis on the construction and deployment of eco-engineered submerged coastal structures in selected pilot areas.
The role includes involvement in the design, development, and fabrication of eco-engineered submerged coastal structures, primarily using 3D printing technologies, including the definition of technical specifications, selection of appropriate materials, and determination of production requirements and parameters.
Duties will also include contributing to the overall technical design of the pilot intervention, coordinating with project partners for its implementation, and providing support during installation activities.
In addition, the role will contribute to the comparison of alternative construction approaches for eco-engineered submerged coastal structures, including conventional and 3D-printed solutions, and to the assessment of their environmental performance in terms of wave attenuation and biodiversity enhancement.
Through these activities, the position will contribute to the validation of environmentally friendly coastal protection solutions and to the generation of data supporting future coastal management strategies under climate change conditions.
