Everbridge is seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to join our Auckland engineering team. This role is ideal for a technical leader who wants to stay close to the code while also taking on people leadership responsibilities, helping a team deliver high-quality software and grow in capability. You will be part of a team dedicated to developing our agentic AI platform used by our SaaS solution.

Our technology stack is diverse, and we value engineers who are adaptable and eager to embrace new challenges with a technology-agnostic approach. While the project you will be working on utilizes AWS Bedrock, React, Node.js, Java and Python, we encourage applications from candidates experienced in other technologies.

    • Lead and support a team of engineers, providing coaching, feedback, and day-to-day guidance while fostering a strong engineering culture.
    • Contribute directly to the design, development, and delivery of high-quality applications and APIs, remaining hands-on with architecture and coding where needed.
    • Drive technical discussions and provide leadership on architecture, scalability, quality, and engineering best practices.
    • Support delivery execution by removing blockers, coordinating with cross-functional partners, and ensuring the team can deliver reliably and sustainably.
      • Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
      • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, including experience leading technical direction and delivering production systems.
      • Experience leading engineers through coaching, mentoring, and performance conversations, with previous people management experience preferred.
      • Strong technical credibility, with the ability and willingness to contribute code, review designs, and guide implementation details.
      • Experience balancing people leadership, technical decision-making, and delivery management in a modern software engineering environment.
      • Interest in solving complex problems that help keep people safe.
      • A collaborative leadership style, with a focus on building team capability, ownership, and accountability.
      • Experience working in large code-base products or enterprise-grade software, with an appreciation for quality, maintainability, and operational excellence.
      • Experience with cloud platforms, with AWS experience being preferred.
