We are made up of eight OHSU divisions, centers and consortiums: The Divisions of Pediatric Cardiology, Adult Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery (including heart transplant) and Vascular Surgery, VA Cardiology and the Center for Developmental Health, Epigenetics Consortium, and Center for Preventive Cardiology.
The Inpatient Cardiology Faculty APP delivers care aligned with a defined scope of practice in the Knight Cardiovascular Institute Inpatient Cardiology Team with work expectations operationalized through departmental workflows, productivity standards, and performance expectations consistent with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) and institutional policies.
This role is structured to meet contract-defined work expectations of 143, 12.5-hour shifts per year inclusive of weekend and holiday coverage, aligned with the clinical coverage model and patient care needs of the service.
The Inpatient Cardiology APP will participate in departmental scheduling processes, including weekend and holiday coverage, with scheduling practices aligned to contract provisions, equitable distribution of coverage, and maintenance of safe, consistent clinical operations.
Clinical Activities (not assigned administrative, education, or research FTE):
Direct
- Patient population is adult patients with acute and chronic cardiovascular disease requiring inpatient management, including coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, structural heart disease, and post-procedural/cardiac surgical care across OHSU inpatient units.
- Practice area and practice type is inpatient-only shared practice with physician faculty for inpatient cardiology clinical units
- Clinical coverage requirement includes weekday, weekend, and holiday coverage for inpatient cardiology rounding and consult service coverage. Night coverage by voluntary nocturnist position only with an expectation that all annual scheduled shifts cross midnight
- Department specific activities:
- Coordinate daily rounding and clinical management of adult patients with cardiovascular disease to optimize patient flow and access including admissions, discharges, and transfers
- Participate in quality, safety, and clinical pathway initiatives within the Knight Cardiovascular Institute (KCVI)
- Engage with OHSU learners
- Support implementation of standardized work expectations, staffing models, and care protocols
Faculty Activities (service, scholarship, and research):
- Clinical APP faculty have an expectation of advancement and activities consistent with faculty pursuits standard work.
- Faculty pursuit opportunities specific to position may be referenced in Clinical Faculty APP standard work which outlines specific activities to support faculty advancement
Requirements
~1 min read- Successful completion of a Master’s Degree in Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing in a recognized APRN specialty (Certified Nurse Midwife, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, or Nurse Practitioner) OR successful completion of a Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant/Associate Studies from an accredited program
- Current RN and APRN licensure with the Oregon Board of Nursing, current national certification in the area of specialization, current BLS, ACLS or PALS Certification as indicated for the position, DEA Certification OR current PA licensure with the Oregon Medical Board, current NCCPA Certification, current BLS, ACLS, or PALS certification, DEA certification
- 3-5 years of clinical experience as an APP that demonstrates ability to fulfill responsibilities for the specific role
- Demonstrated experience in cardiology
- Ability to manage heavy workload and multiple priorities and inflexible deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and written
- Demonstrated ability to satisfy standards of performance delineated by law and associated practice standards
- Proficient in the use of computing hardware and software, including personal computing equipment, electronic medical record, word processing and spreadsheet software
- Regular and consistent attendance at work
- Demonstrated experience in performance/system improvement
- Quality improvement experience
- Experience in Microsoft Office Suite and using EPIC EMR
