We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive and organised Quality and Patient Safety Specialist to join our team. You will be based in our offices in Marylebone and report to the Head of Quality, Safety and Patient Experience.

  1.     To contribute to the Quality Team and work closely with Head of Quality, Safety and Patient Experience in promoting patient safety, clinical quality and the Quality strategy within the hospital.

  2.     Lead on development, implementation and coordination of patient safety systems, processes and initiatives in line with national and organisational needs. This includes but is not limited to Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF), Duty of Candour, Safety Alerts, feedback and mechanisms around lessons learnt.

  3.     Act as lead investigator on complex/serious incident investigations, support compassionate engagement with patients, families and staff, and strengthen learning and improvement systems across the hospital.  Act as advisor for patient safety, supporting and developing clinical teams through training, guidance and assurance, using safety data to identify themes, trends and risks and ensuring effective escalation, assurance and learning through hospital level quality structures and committees. Provide expert advice for investigations as required.

  4.     Promote systems approach to incident investigations. The ‘systems’ approach underpins the new Patient Safety Incident Response Framework and A Just Culture Guide

  5.     Lead on or support patient safety improvement projects using project management methodology as required

  6.     Support local monitoring systems to ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements (including CQC).

  7.     Develop and deliver education programmes for patient safety, including incident investigations methodologies, Duty of Candour/Being Open principles, local and corporate induction and other training needs that may arise

  8.     Provide expert advice on all aspects of patient safety and CQC Standards as they relate to patient safety

  9.     To take active role in ensuring compliance with all hospital regulatory requirements and ensuring compliance with audit and risk management.

  10. To promote excellent clinical leadership in all areas of the hospital. To promote excellent customer service throughout the hospital, facilitating and coordinating corporate and local customer service initiatives and providing appropriate support to colleagues.

  11. To provide support for all aspects of the role promoting optimal clinical standards and contributing to being the leading private healthcare provision within the locality.

  12. To contribute to effective and timely lines of communication within the hospital

  13. Plan and organise meetings as requested and arrange schedules of meetings for recurring events

  1. Support team members in duties where applicable

  2. Run reports as required in areas of compliance

  3. Any other duties as deemed necessary by Head of Quality, Safety and Patient Experience

  • Comprehensive experience in safety and quality governance environment with an emphasis on patient safety / clinical risk

  • Substantial experience of clinical incidents, with understanding of methodologies and systems for reporting

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate complex issues to clinical staff, patients and members of the public

  • Ability to interrogate systems to analyse data and review other internal and external data sources

  • Skilled in facilitation of learning responses

  • Ability to influence, negotiate and deliver results both within and particularly outside the team

  • Quality and clinical governance knowledge of PSIRF

  • High level understanding of systems-based approach to patient safety investigation

  • Educated in systems approach to learning from patient safety (in line with PSIRF)

  • Experience of leading Quality Improvement Projects using established methodology

  • Design and deliver educational and training programs to staff at all levels
