JOB SUMMARY:

The Truck Driver is responsible for the safe care, operation, and handling of an assigned truck. This position transports donated goods and retail inventory between donation sites, processing centers, and retail locations while providing excellent customer service to donors, retail staff, and customers. The Truck Driver ensures compliance with all DOT regulations. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


• Collect donated materials from homes and businesses; load truck according to established guidelines and transport items to assigned retail locations or processing centers.

• Transport returning or excess goods from retail stores to the Processing Center.

• Supervise handling of materials and is responsible for breakage or damage.

• Conduct daily vehicle inspections; maintain cleanliness of truck interior and exterior; report mechanical or safety issues to the Director of Transportation and Logistics. 

• Ensure scheduled maintenance appointments are kept.

• Verify shipments to stores are accurate; complete and handle required paperwork; sign out with appropriate operations or warehouse leadership. 

• Assist retail staff with placement of furniture and heavy objects at retail locations.

• Properly store excess donations in designated warehouse areas; maintain clean and orderly dock and work areas.

• Follow all DOT, transportation department, and safety guidelines at all times.

• Provide professional and courteous customer service to donors, retail staff, and customers.

• Complete daily truck reports per DOT and Director of Transportation and Logistics requirements.

• All other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation and Logistics.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOT medical card.

• Ability to comply with all DOT requirements.

• Ability to follow instructions and transportation guidelines.

• Ability to communicate professionally with customers, donors, and team members.


TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

• Prior professional driving experience required.

• Must provide prior driving employment history.

• Experience supervising or training others is helpful.

• Knowledge of transportation safety and compliance standards.


PHYSICAL / SENSORY DEMANDS:

• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 100 pounds or more.

• Ability to climb in and out of truck cab and box repeatedly.

• Ability to carry items up and down stairs, hills, and driveways.

• Ability to work eight (8) hours or more per day performing physical labor.

• Must have no lifting, standing, sitting, or climbing restrictions.

• Ability to tolerate indoor and outdoor weather conditions.


WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Truck Drivers and Helpers are provided required safety equipment including back support braces, gloves, first aid kits, road triangles, rain gear, communication devices, fire extinguishers, load bars, and straps. Work includes loading and unloading inventory and exposure to varying weather conditions such as heat, rain, sleet, and snow.
