Career and College Counsellor

Role Summary

The Career and College Counselor is responsible for guiding and supporting secondary school students in their academic and career planning. The counselor helps students explore career options, understand college admission processes, and make informed decisions about their future educational and career paths. The counselor also coordinates the activities of the counseling unit.

Role Responsibilities

1.      Provide one-on-one counseling sessions to help students identify their interests, strengths, and career aspirations.

2.        Assist students in developing personalized career and academic plans.

3.        Guide students through the college selection, application, and admission processes.

4.        Assist with writing personal statements, preparing for interviews, and completing financial aid applications.

5.        Organize and conduct college information sessions, workshops, and campus visits.

6.        Facilitate career exploration activities, including interest assessments and career aptitude tests.

7.        Provide information about various career fields, job market trends, and potential career paths.

8.        Connect students with job shadowing, internships, and volunteer opportunities.

9.        Advise students on course selection to align with their career and college goals.

10.     Monitor students’ academic progress and provide support to improve academic performance.

11.     Collaborate with teachers and parents to address any academic concerns.

12.     Develop and deliver workshops on topics such as resume writing, interview skills, and career planning.

13.     Coordinate college fairs, career days, and other events to expose students to various opportunities.

14.     Maintain an up-to-date library of college and career resources, including guides, catalogs, and online tools.

15.     Provide students with access to scholarships, grants, and other financial aid information.

16.     Work closely with teachers, administrators, and parents to support students’ career and college readiness.

17.     Establish relationships with colleges, universities, and employers to facilitate student opportunities.

18.     Stay current with trends in college admissions, financial aid, and career counseling.

19.     Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities and training.

•       Master’s Degree in School Counseling 
•      Certification in Career and College Counseling
•      Two years clinical experience

• Excellent knowledge of Education Act, Public Service Management Code and other regulations
• Expert knowledge of Child Care & Protection Act
• Expert knowledge of child development and behavioural science
• Expert knowledge of remedial and crisis intervention programmes and techniques
• Excellent knowledge of the intervention process for students with exceptionalities and execute all roles therein.
• Expert knowledge of classroom management strategies
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Sound knowledge of the use of standard office equipment and current computer applications and software
• Excellent analytical and decision-making skills
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
• Sound knowledge of CPR
• Ability to work with the staff team to facilitate a whole school approach to mental health and wellbeing
