Job Summary: The Electrical Engineer is a hands-on, office and field-based role within Hatanga Ltd's Design team, combining electrical design with active site involvement, including installation oversight, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems. Working closely with the Project, Property, Procurement, and Trades teams, the role translates client requirements into safe, efficient, and practical solutions while providing visible engineering support on site. It suits a practical, detail-oriented engineer who enjoys solving technical challenges in real-world environments and delivering quality outcomes from concept through to handover. Reports To: Design Manager Work Location: KG Head Office Responsibilities: Develop and produce detailed electrical designs, drawings, schematics, and specifications, ensuring alignment with client briefs, applicable codes, and statutory regulations. Perform electrical calculations including load assessments, cable sizing, voltage drop, fault levels, lighting, and earthing studies to support design decisions and inform on-site activities. Carry out hands-on site work including surveys, installations checks, fault-finding, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems, and provide direct technical support to trades and contractors on site. Supervise and coordinate the work of in-house trades and external contractors during installation phases, ensuring works are executed safely, to specification, and to the required quality standards. Collaborate with the Project, Property, Procurement and Trades teams to ensure constructability, site safety, and practical implementation of electrical designs from concept through to handover. Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, and statutory authorities to clarify design requirements, resolve technical queries on site, and obtain necessary approvals and certifications. Conduct regular site inspections, snagging, and pre-handover walks to verify installations, identify deviations, and ensure corrective actions are completed in line with the approved design. Support continuous improvement by maintaining design standards, capturing lessons learned from the field, and contributing to quality assurance, health and safety, and operational excellence initiatives. Requirements Competencies (Knowledge/Skills/Experience): Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline from a recognised institution. Chartered or working towards Chartered Engineer status is highly desirable. Experience: Solid experience in electrical design and on-site engineering, ideally within building services, property, infrastructure, or construction-related sectors, with proven exposure to installation, testing, and commissioning activities. Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of electrical design and installation principles covering power distribution, lighting, small power, fire detection, security systems, renewables, earthing, testing and commissioning, and applicable codes and standards. Software & Tools Proficiency: Competent user of design software or equivalent design tools, along with Microsoft Office Suite, and confident with site instruments and electrical test equipment. Hands-On & Field Capability: Practical, site-ready engineer comfortable with regular field work, willing and able to travel between sites, work in active construction or live property environments, and engage directly with trades and contractors. Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to interpret complex requirements, perform detailed calculations, troubleshoot design and installation issues on site, and deliver practical, buildable, value-engineered solutions. Communication & Collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders across the Design, Project, Property, Procurement and Trades teams, as well as clients and contractors.
