Description
The Cataloger researches and writes accurate, engaging descriptions for material consigned to Movie Posters auctions. This role combines an interest in film history with strong editorial judgment and organizational skills to produce print and online catalog content, support auction preparation, and help bidders make informed decisions.

Responsibilities
~1 min read· Research and write clear, accurate, and compelling auction descriptions for vintage movie posters, lobby cards, photographs, and related film promotional materials.
· Use reliable research resources to verify details and establish relevant historical and collecting context.
· Tailor the length and depth of descriptions to each lot’s significance, value, and research needs.
· Proofread and edit catalog copy for accuracy, consistency, grammar, and adherence to departmental standards.
· Review accompanying images to ensure they correspond with catalog descriptions and accurately represent the material.
· Coordinate with department staff to resolve questions, manage priorities, and meet catalog production deadlines.
· Respond to prospective bidders’ questions about auction lots with clear, well-researched information.
· Support auction activities and travel to trade shows as needed.
· Lift and move boxes of materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with reasonable accommodation as applicable.
· Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree required; a major in English, History, or a related field is preferred.
· Experience in the movie poster trade or an auction house is a plus.
· Interest in film history, vintage movie posters, and related collectibles.
· Excellent research, writing, and editing skills, with the ability to present detailed information clearly and concisely.
· Strong attention to detail and a commitment to factual accuracy.
· Effective organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to balance multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines.
· Ability to follow established cataloging standards and incorporate editorial feedback.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
· Clear, professional communication skills when working with colleagues and prospective bidders.
· Initiative, curiosity, and a willingness to expand knowledge of movie posters and film memorabilia.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
· Flexibility to work evenings and weekends during busy auction periods and travel as needed.
This role operates in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with multiple auctions and cataloging projects underway. Success requires consistent attention to detail, adaptability, and the ability to maintain quality while meeting production schedules.
