Nature and Scope

The PE Teacher supports Heritage International School in developing students’ physical ability, overall well-being, and lifelong healthy habits. This role promotes skill development, physical literacy, teamwork, and character formation aligned with curriculum goals and Christian values. Lessons and activities should encourage positive growth in each student and help them use their God-given gifts in ways that honor Christ in the school and beyond. In line with the School’s safeguarding and pastoral care framework, female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.


1. Personal Qualities (Modeling & Leadership)

2. Curriculum & Instruction

  • Implement the PE curriculum with fidelity to scope and sequence expectations for the assigned grade level(s).
  • Deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons that address physical fitness, sports skills, teamwork, and health concepts.
  • Integrate sportsmanship, character formation, and Christian values into daily instruction.
  • Employ varied instructional strategies that support individual differences and whole-child development (physical, spiritual, social, emotional, mental).
  • Plan and prepare lessons that accommodate mixed-ability groups and promote student participation.
  • Maintain clear routines, positive discipline, and strong supervision in all PE environments (gym, field, pool, courts).
  • Provide clear and timely feedback to students and parents, including during Parent-Teacher Conferences.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to coordinate units, events, and cross-curricular activities.
  • Stay current with developments in PE, coaching, health education, and school-wide curriculum changes.
  • Participate in school-wide programs, events, and extracurricular activities - some of which may fall on evenings or weekends.
  • Follow all school policies, procedures, and directives.
  • Use biblical principles and the Matthew 18:15–20 approach when resolving conflict.
  • Incorporate appropriate safety procedures in all lessons and activities.

3. Supervision & Student Safety

  • Supervise students during PE classes, on the field, in the gym, at the pool, and during related activities.
  • Support extracurricular athletics, clubs, and events as assigned.
  • Monitor attendance, behavior, and special needs, keeping records accurately.
  • Respond effectively to injuries and emergencies according to school protocols.
  • Maintain equipment and ensure safe use of all sports facilities.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by the Principal or Administration.

4. Professional Development

  • Set annual professional goals aligned with personal growth and school priorities.
  • Participate in school-wide professional development days and in-service training.
  • Engage in ongoing learning related to PE, coaching, curriculum development, instructional strategies, and child development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, attend workshops, and stay updated on best practices in health and physical education.

5. Professional Qualifications

  • A personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
  • A sense of calling to serve at Heritage International School.
  • Respect for cultural diversity and Christian denominational differences.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Physical Education, Sports Science, Health Education, or a related field.
  • Recognized teaching certification.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching or coaching children or youth.
  • Understanding of child development, instructional best practices, curriculum design, and assessment.
  • Strong communication skills in English (oral and written).
  • Proficiency in using technology for planning, reporting, and communication.
  • Alignment with the Heritage International School Statement of Faith.

Previous international experience or school leadership/coaching experience is an added advantage.
