JOB SUMMARY: The Parks Security (Overnight/Graveyard Shift) works under the direct supervision of the Parks Director to ensure the safety, security, and peaceful enjoyment of the recreational parks during overnight hours. This position is responsible for conducting routine patrols, monitoring park facilities and grounds, enforcing park rules and regulations, responding to incidents and public concerns, and maintaining a visible presence to deter vandalism, theft, and unauthorized activities. The Park security personnel prepares detailed reports of observations, incidents, and maintenance concerns while assisting with basic park upkeep and facility inspections. Through vigilance, professionalism, and community-oriented service, the Park Security personnel helps maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all park users and visitors.



EMPLOYMENT DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct routine foot and vehicle patrols of park grounds, facilities, parking lots, trails, playgrounds, sports fields, and recreational areas during assigned shifts.
  • Monitor park activities to ensure compliance with park rules, regulations, policies, and applicable Tribal ordinances.
  • Maintain a visible presence to deter vandalism, theft, trespassing, illegal dumping, and other unauthorized activities.
  • Respond to visitor concerns, complaints, disturbances, emergencies, and suspicious activities in a professional and timely manner.
  • Prepare accurate and detailed incident reports, daily activity logs, and documentation of violations, accidents, and unusual occurrences.
  • Inspect park facilities and grounds for safety hazards, maintenance issues, damaged equipment, and vandalism.
  • Report maintenance needs, safety concerns, and facility deficiencies to the Parks Director and appropriate personnel.
  • Perform basic groundskeeping and maintenance duties, including litter removal, restroom inspections, minor cleanup, and securing park facilities.
  • Open, close, and secure park gates, buildings, restrooms, sports facilities, and other amenities according to established schedules and procedures.
  • Monitor and assist with park reservations, special events, tournaments, community gatherings, and recreational programs as assigned.
  • Provide courteous customer service and information to park visitors, community members, and guests.
  • Assist with crowd management, traffic control, and public safety efforts during special events and high-attendance activities.
  •  Monitor park property for potential risks, hazards, or conditions that may impact visitor safety and enjoyment.
  • Operate department vehicles, radios, communication devices, and other equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Coordinate with Tribal law enforcement, emergency medical services, fire personnel, and other departments when situations require additional assistance.
  • Assist with emergency response efforts, evacuations, severe weather events, and disaster-related incidents affecting park facilities.
  • Enforce park operating hours and notify visitors of park closures when necessary.
  • Observe and report wildlife concerns, environmental hazards, and resource protection issues within park areas.
  • Attend required trainings, safety meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with Tribal departments, community members, visitors, and outside agencies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Parks Director to support the efficient operation, maintenance, safety, and security of Tribal parks and recreational facilities.



EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND/OR SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.
  • Basic knowledge of park operations, facility monitoring, and public safety practices.
  • Ability to patrol park grounds and facilities on foot and by vehicle for extended periods.
  • Ability to observe, identify, and report safety hazards, suspicious activities, vandalism, and maintenance concerns.
  • Basic knowledge of report writing and recordkeeping practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with Tribal members, visitors, staff, and emergency responders.
  • Ability to enforce park rules and regulations in a fair, respectful, and consistent manner.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, and public safety concerns.
  • Basic knowledge of groundskeeping, facility upkeep, and general maintenance practices.
  • Ability to safely operate work-related vehicles, radios, cell phones, and other assigned equipment.
  • Understanding of workplace safety standards and ability to follow established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to document incidents, observations, and maintenance issues accurately.
  • Ability to work evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and special events as assigned.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks, including walking, standing, bending, and lifting.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with Tribal departments, community members, visitors, and outside agencies.
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License with an acceptable driving record required.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn Tribal values, cultural sensitivity, and environmental stewardship practices.

  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card as a condition of employment.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to be insurable under the Tribe’s vehicle insurance policy.
  • Ability to conduct site inspections and work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
  • Must successfully pass a background check; drug screening will be required.
  • Preference may be given to qualified Tribal Members in accordance with tribal employment preference policies.
